  • wow, nice spec and battery at only 135 grams!

Like the rounded corners too, that's why I prefer the Lumia 620 to the higher models with sharp corners

  • On checking the specs the Galaxy S3 would be a more worthy investment than this @ the price point…

On specs alone, perhaps, but that hardly matters with Windows Phone.

Three reasons why people may want this over the Galaxy S3:
        1)Operating system
        2)Faster downloads 42mbps vs 21mbps
        3)Slightly larger battery 2300mAh vs 2100mAh

Having used the HTC 8x for a week or two now, I am finding the windows OS is growing on me.

        • Will they ever put the 8x back on for under 279? Oh woe…

True, but you missed my point "value" and "investment" @ $380, being a Windows 8 phone is actually a bad thing at this price point, The market share posted about 10 hrs ago reveals a 64.2% spike in overall Android phone's global sales, suggesting a 10% increase vs a 0.8% increase in uptake of Windows phones, not stating Windows is bad because its different but that the uptake and purchase rate makes Android's at this price point worth more for a long term investment. Put a capped price of $250 on these Windows phones and they will sell better…, this is the market talking not moi…

I know those who own windows phones will come out lashing, but spending big on a Windows Phone isn't wise…

        • Granted that Windows phone is still trailing Android and iOS (and by a fair way at the moment). It would be fair to say that Microsoft dragged their feet getting in to the market but they have made good ground.

As for the value and investment most people would by a phone because the like the phone, OS and possibly the apps over 'investment' (at least not in the senses of shares or a house) and at this price point IMHO it is very good value

For those wanting a cheaper Windows 8 phone there are other models to choose from (i.e. Nokia 520, 620, HTC 8S) which fit the less that $250, just as there is in the Android market.

The main thing about Windows Phones is that they don't require "Additional Power" to function up to the mark, your spending more for the exact same experience that you would get with a lower priced Windows phone, putting aside a slightly better camera or larger screen. You spend big on Android because you can use all that excessive power and capability.

If you cap the phone at its maximum capability, your looking at a price point of $250, spending anything more on supposedly more powerful devices is futile and there is seriously NOTHING in its App market to utilize such capability to the max.

That's exactly what I wanted "cyssero" to say…

"On specs alone, perhaps, but that hardly matters with Windows Phone."

Now you've got users stating the obvious and still paying more for the same experience… lolz

Again let me stress the Price Point, not having a go at Windows Phones here…

You said it…, but we are over analyzing my simple yet true opening comment… lol

Invest your money in the phone's ability and seek value from it, as people won't spend $400 every few months…

        • You're forgetting build quality :)

        • A phone is a liability, whichever way you look at it. That's why you should stay a Gen or 2 behind like a true ozbargainer

    • huh? they're practically equivalent. S4 trades blows with the exynos in the S3, unless you're talking 4G S3 with more ram, then they have the same SoC plus a higher price tag…

  • good price, however im a little worried for afermarket support from samsung. i would probably prefer the 820 with wireless charging or 720 etc. but still if your a samsung fan, really good. it will be hand down faster than the S3 (my 1ghz mozart 2.5 yrs old now is faster than my S3s out there full of crapware)

  • What's the resolution of the screen?

    • 1280 x 720

  • 250mb d/l to enable wp to interface with comp. pass

    • +2

Windows Phone 8 doesn't use Zune; you can transfer content directly to it via plugging in the USB and it will open your music folders etc where you can drag and drop content.
