Recommend a good room heater?

Hi guys, I need to find a good heater for a smallish bedroom. Don't really know much about heaters, I heard oil ones are good. Would like to spend under 100$. Would like the heater to have a good and easy to use inbuilt timer, such as automatically turning off after a period of time and turning on at a certain time.

Thanks,

  • I would go a Delonghi 1500W Oil Column Heater with Timer (DL1501T). We have previously had some expensive panel heaters that all stopped working within three years. The Delonghi does the job well at a decent price, but at a level of quality that doesn't make me worry about it burning the house down. Just make sure you get a heater that matches your room size. If you have a smallish bedroom then a 1000W heater may be a better option.

  • If you want to keep the room warm 24/7 then the column heaters are the go, but if its only for short periods then I'd go for a decent size Ceramic fan heater (refer earlier comments re heater capacity for room size).

  • in case you interested, I'm selling one at this moment.. check here:

  • I've never seen a column heater that would warm a room up in a reasonable time (a room of approximately 3m x 3m x 3m); but it could be that I haven't tried the right one. For this reason I've always preferred the small fan-assisted heaters that give you instant heat and sell for peanuts.

They probably aren't the most efficient machines though.

  • I got a little box ceramic heater from Tricky Dicky back in the 80s I think it was. Brilliant little unit with true thermostat control. Still working too. As the room warms up, the fan slows down and heating element sucks less amps. Starts off at top speed and noise but then purs like a kitten as desired temp is reached.

Actually saw a Delonghi unit at Harvey Norman yesterday which I think operates same way but need to double check as I'm looking for heater for another area. It even has remote control.

Whatever you pick, make sure it's fan assisted to heat the whole room. Relying on radiant heat only is hugely ineffecient.
