  • I am with PetPlan for both of my cats. One of which recently played with a piece of string and swallowed it. This caused havoc in his stomach and he was throwing up non-stop. We had to take him to ememergency and had 2 ultrasound and surgery to get the string out. Cost $7000 in the end. PetPlan paid for everything expect the excess amount. The claim process was easy and took about 3 weeks for me to get paid. Recommended.

  • i used to have my 5yo dog with medibank when they had 100% cover. these days all the insurance co only offer 80% so they're all pretty competitive in general so i would browse around. it all depends what kind of cover you're looking for.

have since switched to woolworths pet insurance because medibank wouldnt match their quote and been great so far with their claim process (for me anyway). I also earn double QFF points equivalent to the cost of the premium and got a visa gift card upon signing up from an ozbargain post sometime ago (a coupon code you need when ringing up to sign up).

whatever company you choose, make sure you're unscrupulous with your paperwork because they will find a way to lengthen the claim process any way possible or not pay out. from my experience, complete medical history is absolutely necessary as well as vet assessment and his signature on the claim form (so always bring one to the vet just in case). also make sure you ask to get an itemised invoice.

    hope this helps

  • Thanks friends

    • Please don't go with Woolworths Insurance. I took out a policy without first reading the internet reviews and lived to regret it when it came to claim. Their incompetence is beyond belief; 'lost' documents, 'lost' emails (even though you can obviously prove you sent them), they never return your calls, you spend an eternity on hold when trying to claim, excessive delays, only paying part of the claim settlement in the hope you don't realise etc. etc., but don't just take my word for it - read Product Review or similar to see what other customers have to say. Once my policy finished in June I'll be looking for another insurer and it's nice to see above that some other insurers have more scruples.

      • I read reviews online.. Many others said that too:_
Petplan seems better, but their price is double of medibank pet insurance.
Wish pets can have Medicare too !

  • Check out any home or contents policy you have. Most include the option to insure pets for only a $ or 2 extra per week. The coverage they offer varies dramatically, however, so do your homework before jumping into anything.

  • i think you should show your pet medical history to the insurance companies and see which company would cover you. I am disputing with RSPCA with their ridiculous reject on my claim. i took up insurance with them 2 years ago when my dog was 5 years old. i tried to submit a claim as he had surgery to remove an abnormal growth but that claim got rejected. Why ? well being a first time dog owner, i was concerned about him licking his paws when he was a puppy. It was a case of me being paranoid and the vets took note of that in their system. so now effectively, any claims that has to do with skin would be rejected ! skin on lips, organs, anywhere … reject !

    • thats rediculous!
my dog had a skin allergy reaction before. It means that they will reject everything….
      vet bills are crazy too!
