Best places to buy projectors under $1000?

When I used to shop for them, Officeworks was always pretty cheap. They seem to be still competitive now.

Staticice shows some small tech vendors have good prices, as long as I know exactly which model I'm after (but I don't nowadays).

Any other places I should look? Do Amazon, or any of those sites, deliver projectors to Oz cheap enough to make it worth risking no local warranty?

Personally I'm after a 1080p one for blu-rays and PC gaming in a dark or near dark room (will consider 720p or 1280x800 if cheap enough). 3D might be nice but is no big deal, I never use it on the TV.

  • I've been looking aswell, there are a number on ebay with 1280x800 resolution without 3d relatively cheap and have LED bulbs which last allot longer than conventional

I imagine brightness/contrast is a major issue with LED projectors

    • I thought the no-name cheapo ones on ebay had rubbish picture quality despite their claimed specs. Has this changed?

There is also a benq w1070 at officeworks which is fhd and 3d capable for $998

    • This is a pretty highly rated one too. I found it about $30 dollars cheaper on staticice, but I guess officeworks will price match.

if you know what you're looking at/for one of these could be worth while. i think you can get 3led 3lcd for around $1200-$1500 that are supposed to be awesome

    • Are there any decent ones? Just seems to be hundreds of those cheapo no-name ebay "1080p projectors" that are actually 800x600 / 800:1 in the specs… and look worse than 640x480 / 400:1 when you get them home.

I don't mind cheap, I am an ozbargainer after all, but I haven't seen one of these that's a quarter as good in image quality as the crappiest $450 brand-name projector. Not much point getting a projector that's not even as good as a TV.

Optoma HD20, HD (1080p), 1700 ANSI Lumens, Home Theater Projector $699.00 From Amazon is a good choice.

    • So they do deliver them to Oz? Without a forwarding service?
