Verite Team Red Carbon Road Bike $1,848.40 Delivered

BIKES40%

Seems like a good deal for SRAM Red and the listed weight of 6.8kg caught my eye, (if you consider buying I would ring and confirm this, most likely it will be the medium size) seems like it is cycling express injouse job, on the plus it comes with warranty. Also the year is not listed, however the wheels are 2011, so expect 2011 or 2012 model oh and given the weather don't impulse buy :)

I'm not in the market having just brought a heavier bike for $1600… and just today new wheels for $400 and still my large frame but will struggle to get to high 7kg

Good luck finding a serious road racing setup with pedals included, my friend…

      • -2

        I suppose they don't include a basket either ?

        • +2

No and you'll have to find one of those large flouro flags, a bell and some reflectors for the spokes whilst you are at it!

    • No helmet either

      • -7

yet they include a seat? go figure…..

    • People have their own preference regarding pedals, cleats and eventually the shoes that attach to them all and this can affect their choice of pedals.

      • -2

People have their own preference regarding pedals

        and seats…

        • +1

dunno why all the negatives on you, but you make a good point actually

damn seat is the first thing you change when you buy a roadie + the handlebar tape colour to match the seat colour

        • yeah I changed my seat straight up. the ones that come on factory built bikes are harder than brick!

  • In europe they sell bikes with lights, mudguards, bottle-holder, rack, lock etc. fitted.

But here, the bike shops refuse to stock such bikes because they make more profit on accessories, which have a much higher markup than bikes.

a bit of a generalization there… i live in Europe, i just bought a new bike. then bought lights, mudguards, bottle holders, lock.

you can buy bikes with all that stuff fitted, but you are paying for it, it's not coming free.
you can also buy bikes without that stuff fitted.
it's usually whatever the manufacturer adds on to hit a price point.

      • I think the point is that if the manufacturer adds the accessories they wont be gouging you on price as opposed to local stores. He is right, in Australia we get riped off on accessories, compare some prices on Wiggle to local stores and you will save at least 50% on most items.

We do have a few fully kitted out bikes from the manufacturer, like the Vivente World Randonneur but I suspect there may not be the same range as elsewhere although we are a much smaller market so thats probably why.

In any case, the argument of the OP is misplaced here. This is a road bike so why would any manufacturer send it out of the factory with lights, mudguards and locks fitted? They shouldnt even come with a seat seeing as that is as much a personal preference as pedals are.

    • Depends on the type of bike.

In Europe, they sell heavy durable upright town bikes with lights, mudguards etc..
In Australia, the market for bikes like this is very limited (but growing, thankfully). They're a niche product, but they exist.

In Europe, they sell lightweight racing bikes without accessories (and without pedals, jv).
In Australia, they also sell lightweight racing bikes without accessories.

You won't see a bike with SRAM Red components for sale with mudguards, rack and lock anywhere.
Kind of like how you won't see a Ferrari with roofracks and a towbar.

  • +1 that's an awesome deal for a top of the range drivetrain and very light listed weight

If only it came with a nice pink basket for groceries… =P

  • One can buy a second hand car with that money

    • -1

Great another hyundai owner, comparing bikes to cars lol

  • +1

Beware of CyclingExpress, they are a horrible company to deal with.

    • Yep, they charge you extra for pedals… Imagine if they did that with cars…

  • +2

I got one for $ 58 from BIGW and work fine.

    • Did you get pedals and a basket?

    • +1

You got a 6.8kg carbon bike with SRAM Red components for $58?

Damn, I should shop at BigW more often.

PS - a set of SRAM Red brake levers will set you back US$639 at full retail. http://www.sram.com/sram/road/products/sram-red-doubletap-co… . Nobody's asking your opinion on whether high-end bike components are good value; we're discussing whether this bike is a bargain. And it is.

      • I wonder what the markup on that is.

  • surely this was a pricing mistake - this is the same as their mezzo 90 with cycling express branding instead and its $2999(the verite version) currently!

  • I'd steer clear from dealing with cycling express. They're terrible to communicate with. their returns policy is absolute bullshit. They won't admit fault even when they send the wrong size.
the second replacement bike they sent me was a dirty and scratched to disbelief, I later found out that the replacement bike they sent me for the 2nd time was a demo bike which was ridden around and reboxed and sold as new. Apparently they think that its acceptable to sell a demo bike with damage and grime throughout the bike as a new item…

it took 2 months to get a refund and was absolute bullshit. I would never deal with them again.

save yourself the trouble and buy local, or from cellbikes or from wiggle.com.au, even big W. but not from these clowns..

  • A lot of other people have had similar issues with them too.
