Energy Drinks! Whats your take on V, monster, red bull etc?

HI
I googled but couldnt find much on V. The orange one that just came out gives a strange buzz. the moment it goes down, im hyperactive start to sweat and my brain suddenly gets a sense of super urgency/anxiety & i even get head spins if i just had coffee before. The green variant of V has a different buzz and a different rush and gets the brain and body active in a slightly different way, i dont know how to describe it but its certainly different. Similarly red bull and monster gets you super/hyper active in a certainly different way (they got a different rush)

Just wanna know. what do you guys think about energy drinks. do you drink em? if not, then why? iv heard they are harmful to health. if so, then why doesn't the govt bans or tax em (like smokes) . Is there any autonomous agency independently verifying their ingredients and its affects on human health in the longer run? Can we ask a lab or an agency to look into it.

Thanks

Energy drinks are really just carbonated soft drinks with a crapton of sugar and caffeine. They might add in some vitamins and market it as a health product in order to justify it's higher price, but in the end the active ingredient in any energy drink is the combination of sugar (energy) and caffeine (stimulant for your central nervous system). That's what gives you the 'kick' and reduces sleepiness, however the results are short lasting and you will generally feel like crap afterwards. In other words, it probably does more harm than good to your body.

Can we ask a lab or an agency to look into it.

The results are already well known. Do you really want the prices of these products to rise if the government had to artificially limit supply and print giant warning labels on the packaging?

Too much of caffeine will induce side effects like restlessness, and figdgeting.. take it a little too far and you will die from caffeine toxicity. Prolonged intake of caffeine will make you addicted to it (bit like smoking). And if your health is poor, or you're overweight, drinking sugary drinks is going to make matters worse.

  • They're not dangerous if they're used according to instructions on the cans, i.e two cans a day.
Some people have been admitted to hospital with heart palpitations and anxiety attacks because they consumed too many. Someone with serious heart disease shouldn't have them but that would apply to any caffeine product.
This Labor govt would tax anything at the moment so they can get more money to waste, don't encourage them.

  • Can't stand the taste of V, it tastes like windex + sugar. I like the flavour of Red Bull, on the other hand (never drink it though).

Like the taste, but they do nothing for me. Have not had one in over a year. Easier to just get a coffee.
As for the caffeine content, it is really not that high at all (less than coffee in most cases).

Nobody is being misled, they like the drink so they drink it, I don't really get your angle.

  • I've heard oxygen can be harmful to your health too. The government should put a tax on oxygen consumption.
