Japan - Hotel Booking via Jalan.net

Hi,
has anyone used this jalan.net service before? I've got the link from tripadvisor.com.au while searching for hotels in kawaguchi, japan.

Managed to get a booking for 1 night without passing any CC detail. so, kind of weird and worried if we've secured the booking or not. got their confirmation email.

The weird that's kind of bugging me is the cancellation policy.

Cancellation Fee:
7 - 6 days before arrival: 20%of total amount
5 - 3 days before arrival: 30%of total amount
2 - 1 days before arrival: 50%of total amount
On the date of arrival: 100%of total amount
Without notification in advance: 100%of total amount

Deadline of the reservation cancellation via Jalan net: Until 15:00 of the day of the check-in

So, How can they charge me cancellation fee if I have not paid any deposit and have no CC detail.

No idea, but if you're paranoid, just use Agoda, I've used it for even the most backwater places in Japan, and it works, you can also use Paypal so your CC details are safer.

i booked several hotels/hostels with booking.com. They don't charge a fee and no need for hotel deposit. Just arrive and pay everything then, show them your confirmation email.

Haven't heard of jalan.net but their method of booking sounds weird.

I recently had a Japan trip in March/April, booked hotels through Expedia. I've cancelled a number of hotels and re-booked since my girlfriend and I were planning and they had specials every so often.

Their policy is, you need to give them 24 hours notice before the actual check-in date to receive 100% refunded.

  • Booking is confirmed.

received an email from the hotel directly

    Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for choosing our hotel and we do confirm your reservation as follow,

4 person , 1 room on 27th Jul , dinner and breakfast included.
    Price @JPN10,550 x 4 person = JPN42,200.-
Please notice, Onsen-tax will be automatically add to your bill (@JPN150 x 4 person).

Please choose your main dishes from,
    1. Beef-Sukiyaki 2. Pork-Shabushabu 3. Hoto (Local-Noodle).

If you have any questions or requests, please mail us anytime.

  • I just came back from Japan a few months ago, I secured the hotels against my credit card but did not make payment at any of them until I was there. Jalan is mentioned quite often on trip advisor so I probably wouldn't be too concerned.

We actually had a family emergency about 6 hours before we flew out and all the hotels were very helpful and were able to push back our bookings with no extra fees. All my bookings were made directly through the hotels except for the one Ryokan I stayed at.
