Buying a used PC

Hi Guys,
Need your expertise again. A friend of mine is selling his PC (just the PC, no monitor) for $1200. Below are the specs:

Mainboard : Gigabyte X79-UD5
Chipset : Intel C600 Series
Processor : Intel Core i7 3930K @ 3200 MHz
Physical Memory : 16384 MBDDR3-SDRAM
Video Card : AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
Hard Disk : Western Digital WD20 02FAEX-007BA0 SCSI Disk Device (2000GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS90

Is it worth the money or could i get a better, brand new one for the money? Thanks in advance.

Just looking at the specs, it looks overpriced. Its also second hand as well. You could easily put together a better system yourself. Have a look on MSY or PCCG to compare the price (some of these specs are discontinued).

That CPU is the kind you buy when you walk into a store and say 'here is my credit card, shout everyone a round of drinks!' rather than something worth buying. Unless you have a very specific set of requirements this doesn't make a lot of sense. Also the details on the video card are quite vague.

      GPU might be HD7970

Not worth buying. Tell your friend to sell it on Gumtree.

  • The graphics card is ATI 7970 3GB.
Thanks, I will pass on this one.
