Looking for a Tablet

Hey guys,

Looking for a tablet preferably 7" under the $250 mark. I don't really care if it Wi-fi only as I can just use my phone as a hotspot.

I would like to use it for the following;

  • Kindle Books
  • Apps & Games such as Facebook, Twitter, Megopolis, Jurassic Park Builder, Angry Birds etc.
  • Watching HD movies and using services like Ultraviolet or Quickflix (if possible, not that important).

Any ideas on brands, models?

Thanks heaps!

lol, you've seen the front page right?

    • lol, I know but I'm just getting some opinions on different tablets.
      Are the Nexus's any good?

      • One of the best. It's hard to recommend anything else when the Nexus 16GB can be had for $199

There is the other low end Acer tablet but it's $129 normally and is a lot slower than the Nexus.

        • New Acer A1 can be had for less than a Nexus and is pretty much on par.

But I concur, Nexus7 is a great all round tablet. If you're(OP) disappointed with it, there isn't anything much else to offer you in the android 7" category.

        • Why is the acer on par? from the reports i heard it was more on par with chinese knock offs
          no offense just wondering?

        • I think you're referring to the B1? Which is really really poor and on par with chinese knock offs.

This is the one I was referring to - http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/acer-iconia-a1-810/4505-3126…

Its about to be released here. Quad core MTK chip, PowerVR SGX 544 MP1 GPU, 1GB RAM, card slot, 16 GB ROM, 7.9 inch (768 x 1024 IPS lcd), BTH4.0 and slightly cheaper than the N7.

Its GPU, on paper should be better than the Nvidia Tegra chip and Mali400 in the 3D gaming department as well due to pixel shading etc. The difference in processors is however quite minimal. Not sure how the PowerVR SGX 544 compares in real life though.

        • It looks like it might be based on the mobile version of MTK7589 except with a higher clock speed. If that's the case the GPU should be slightly better than the mobile version, but its unlikely to beat the Nexus 7 in terms of GPU rendering speed.

  • Depends if you want APPLE IPAD MINI or An Android 7 inch Tablet (a few choices)

I prefer the Android Tablets as they are more flexible (That is it does not need a program like ITUNE to setup)

Nexus is a great Tablet its made by Google

I prefer the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7inch as it has a slot for a memory card which the Nexus doesn't
Which means you can add more memory and load it with more movies or music

Theres also a Cheap Acer but It looks pretty flimsy and doubt its as good as Nexus or Samsung

    • Nexus is a great Tablet its made by Google

afaik, it's designed by google, manufactured by asus

      • Sorry yeah I meant that LOL
        Sure you did ..

    • I was thinking same but dual core vs quad core for xbmc had me going for nexus

  • I see the amicroe tablets are on special at Harvey Norman for $68.

    Are these any good?

    • They are okay, the 512mb of ram is not enough for higher end stuff.

  • Nexus 7

Ended up getting a Nexus 7 32GB from HN for $248.
