Presale: 42" Kogan Android 4.2 3D TV For $449

131

If you’re keen to jump on the Google TV smart LCDTV bandwagon but refuse to stump up the cash, Kogan’s latest 3D LED TV could be worth a look. The 42-inch Agora Smart 3D LED TV runs on the latest version of Android and is currently selling for an introductory “pre-sale” price of $449. Here’s a peek at the specs.
The Kogan Agora Smart 3D LED TV boasts a 42-inch Full HD (1080p) LED panel with a brightness rating of 350cd/m² and a response time of eight millisecond (8sms). But its main claim to fame is its Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system which Kogan is billing as the world’s first on a 3D TV.

Other product highlights include:

■Built-in PVR functionality
■3D ready (includes two 3D glasses)
■Wi-Fi connectivity
■3x USB Ports (including one USB 3.0 port)
■3x HDMI Ports
■60Hz refresh rate
■Supported USB Media Types: MKV, MP4, H.264, MPEG2, MPEG4, JPEG, PNG, BMP, MP3, WMA, MPG
The TV measures 958x52x566mm, which is around ten times thicker than the latest flagship LED TV from Samsung. Mind you, that TV will also set you back $10,000.

On the downside, you can’t check the quality of the TV in person prior to buying because Kogan is an online-only store. At this price though, it would have to be a real stinker not to be worth the money.

The Kogan Agora Smart 3D LED TV is available to pre-order now and will ship on 25 July.

      60hz as a 3d tv? GTFO

  • Looks great for the price.

  • So how do you use the driod interface? I mean I assume this TV is not a touchscreen. It would be hard to pinch and stretch using a remote, perhaps we can use a wand?

Does it decode AC3 and DTS audio?

    • Search Youtube on "Mele air mouse Android" and you'll see how it works.

Without ethernet it's kinda pointless. Most people who would use this 'smart' TV would have a media server storing all of the 'media'.
Who would want to transfer it all to USB and plug it in.
Atleast provide an ethernet connect or WiFi.

If it had that it might be tempting a second TV for the kitchen, or bedroom, but without it, the 'Smartness' is lost.

    EDIT;
Ok, so it has wifi.. still ethernet would be nice ;p

My thoughts exactly. With an ethernet port I would have got it, but I dont trust this TV to stream HD movies wirelessly without stutter, which means I need to get a separate media player. Bit of a shame.

      • I stream HD movies all the time over wireless with my budget Aldi DGTEC Android STB. The config I have is 150N on the box, 300N on the router and 150N on the server, and it doesn't skip a beat (unless the server or router has an issue). I'd be hard pressed that a year on and with android 4.2 that this tv wouldn't be a step up from that (although the wireless in my box eventually died and now I'm using the ethernet port, so it can be handy). Much of the time my server is only using 54G and it still works for most HD mkv files

  • Anyone have experience with 3D playback on a 60Hz panel? Does this mean only 30Hz per channel?

  • Will it really have a bezel that slim?

  • side note - 802.11ac wifi will be coming out this year, increased throughput for streamed HD movies…this will have 802.11n support but Kogan are early adopters so keen to see the spec sheet

  • Dumb newb question: when it says supports "MKV, MP4, H.264, MPEG2, MPEG4, JPEG, PNG, BMP, MP3, WMA, MPG" does this mean within a container format such as .avi or a VIDEO_TS image?

Or will it likely not play .avi for example?

    • you'll probably find it will play everything, if it supports mkv (a container file itself) then it will play it fine.

  • .
The Smart TV I'll be buying needs to be smart enough to have a LAN (ethernet) connection
I got a 4 port modem for that purpose, and really Samsungs are 100hz so I think that's also
an important consideration but 3D is a gimmick I can live without

    :)

  • Completely dumb. Plug in your Android phone for almost certainly a far better experience.

    Also - really? 60hz?

Bull it will have .ac support. Just like how their agora phone supported 850mhz.

    • Its not dumb. Plugging your phone in to watch 1080p content would certainly make it overheat and run down the battery quicker than you can finish a full length movie. And you don't get full usb ports for KB/Mouse.

Since an Android HDMI stick costs around $50 usually, this means the TV sets you back $400. Thats not shabby for a 42 incher.

      • and you'll also need a long HDMI cable if you are planning on doing anything from your lounge chair outside of changing the volume.
