Question for Amazon Shopper Pros

Ive rarely bought anything from Amazon US, mostly due to being told 'The Seller Does Not Ship To This Address' warning - especially regarding electronics / IT stuff. What is the best way to solve this? Are the same products usually listed on their UK site or another regional location? If so, do they normally ship to AU?

  • just trial and error basically…
normally small sellers will not ship overseas, so pick one that amazon sells directly.
put them in cart, checkout, click "calculate shipping" something like that, and you know how much shipping is, otherwise, cannot ship to AU

  • If you log on to amazon and have your Aussie address as the default, most times you'll be able to see the ones that don't ship to Australia marked so on the product page. Also when you do a search for a product there is often a tick box to filter in only the ones eligible for Amazon Global Shipping. I always look for products sold by amazon as against ones sold by other merchants on amazon. You can try the amazon uk or de site as well. Many products sold on the uk or de site are shipped from Germany and almost all the ones sold on the us site is shipped from a US warehouse

    • do you mean on the left side
      "International Shipping (What's this?)
      AmazonGlobal Eligible"

i found that not 100% reliable, some item i have on my wish list is not showing up when i filter using above but it is ship-able to australia.

  • Check Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de if amazon.com doesn't deliver what you want.

Choosing amazon.com, amazon.de or amazon.co.uk as the seller is the way to go if you want to avoid excessive postage from third-parties.

Add to cart to check is the best way. See if you get any warnings checking out and working out postage, because sometimes they show up even though the main product page doesn't say that it can't be sent. Otherwise, if the main page says it can't be sent, don't bother.

Amazon is a mess that way. I rarely ever use "AmazonGlobal eligible" as the filter since it's OK sometimes for a general search without the fluff but can still omit some products that are sent.

  • +3

Also check pricenoia.com. They're basically a price aggregator/comparator for all amazon global sites.

For example, a search for Dyson DC37 shows the cheapest Allergy model is from Italy.

    • that link is full of win, thanks.

edit Doh, spoke too soon. Just found some inconsistencies with what is reported for postage and what the actual figure is.

Try to add this for instance:
      B003581J86

Then see amazon.co.uk shipping and then the actual shipping charge after adding the bag to checkout from amazon.co.uk. Amazon.co.uk gives an excessive shipping charge, largely due to the fact that it thinks this bag weighs 9kg. But it's not reflected in Pricenoia.

Clicking on the amazon links (and not third party) sometimes takes you to third parties (but that could be an amazon fault since they chop & change regularly). Still, a good site to start your search on but not the last word unfortunately.

What's interesting is that this bag used to ship cheaply (like Pricenoia states) but no longer does. I think Amazon does manipulation of weights to screw with our minds and wallets.

    • Thanks for that link. It has'nt got me what I want atm, but it will certainly come in handy for future buys.
