Ridiculous EB Games iPad/iPhone/iTouch trade in promotion

Just noticed this on the back of EB's latest “sale” catalogue and had to share.

Trade in your broken iPad, iPhone or iTouch for a guaranteed minimum $20 trade in value. If this wasn't shit enough by itself (due to faulty Apple devices often still fetching hundreds of dollars on eBay) – I laughed out loud at the fine print at the bottom of the page:

“iDevices must be working and complete… Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Trades with case damage or unsightly scratches, personalization or engravings will not be accepted.”

So your broken iPad has to be in full working order and not damaged. What a crock!

"You know it makes more than cents!"
I just cringed when I read this.

Like a competition on a bag of crisps.

"Win a trip to Disneyland! No purchase necessary. Details inside"

And EB will probably get plenty of takers on this offer.

If you can run a ridiculous money grab, why wouldn't you? I'd like to point out how Apple sells their products at double or more the price of comparable alternatives. Maybe EB is catching onto the most profitable demographic - stupi… err Apple customers.

You are completely misinformed truth be known I work at EBGames. Yes we do not give full price for broken apple products. Why would we.
And furthermore who does, name one single business that buys second hand products that are damaged, at the same price as like new.
The fine print you read is not store policy it is a prohibit action piece of information.
Put there to stop people abusing EB staff when an iPhone that's been run over by a car dropped in a toilet or off a building is only given a $20 trade value.
I have personally traded many phones in store none of which have ever been rejected most of which even with high level damage are given the max trade price available for that item in that condition.
To comment on broken I devices fetching hundred on eBay. I would love to see the proof. As far as my research lead me I never once noticed a broken device actually sell.
Not only that EB has higher than average trade price in the industry.
You want to keep your old phones in a drawer while they depreciate daily and not come to an EB store than by all means do.
Otherwise actually walk into a store and see how staff use the systems put in place to benefit customers the best we can. That way you may actually be readily informed instead of spouting absolute bull relating to fine print instead of actual procedure.

    • Haha, oh wow.

    • That planet you live on… what's the weather like?

      • Do you have any idea how the second hand retail market works? This whole thread is ridiculous.
