Acer EM250 netbook repair

I got this from the $197 deal posted awhile back now.

So anyway, the netbook was going great until it got dropped off the couch.

Now only about a 1 inch wide section of the screen works. I'm wondering what to do with it, whether it's worth repairing myself or salvaging parts and sending it back to Acer's recycling program.

Netbooks aint worth much any more, it's probably not worth repairing. I'd either salvage the parts, or recycle it. And then get something like a Vivobook that usually go for $3-400 when on special. [Currently $374 at Harvey Norman.] (http://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-vivobook-s200-ct209h-lap…)

quick google shows the screens arent that expensive

$55-$70? but you couldnt pay me enough to open up one of those pieces of shit

depends how much self abuse you like

i regularly work on my own 14"-15" HPs and Lenovos and they're a pain

go on youtube and see how easy it is to open the acer

  • Hah! I know you want an excuse to get a new laptop, but it isn't too hard to swap out the screen with a replacement.

  • on a side note- have you plugged it in to an external monitor to check it is the screen and not something else?

  • Haven't tried that. It's about $50 fix but I'm not sure if it's worth it

    • check to see that it is the screen/lcd. if it is then decapitate it and use it as a smart media centre connected to your tv. turn your tv into a Smart TV, etc.

grab one of those small wireless keyboards/mouses (like what ,sigh, kogan sells).

if you're going to junk it then let me know and I'll take it off your hands. I have an original mac where the MB is toast so I've been planning on gutting it and putting a LCD in it with a pc small factor M/B but the em350 is small enough to go in as well. it would be perfect.

    • Even if the screen is faulty, it can still be used as a fully working "headless" computer.

There are many things you could do with a headless netbook

      Samba fileshare server
Low power torrent and Usenet box
      XBMC and Media Center

And yes, it can serve all three purposes at once.

And you don't even need a screen to control it. SImply install Splashtop on the netbook, and remote control it using your smartphone or tablet.

Admittedly the Atom N270 in this notebook is fairly weak in the GPU department so I wouldn't bother playing 1080p media on it.

yeah 1st gen atom whatever you gotta ask yourself if you want to sink more money into it

maybe flush it down the ebay toilet and get a new ultrabook
