Origin Electricity - what do we think?

Just rang Origin after reading this post

I have "time of use" electricity meters at home so I run my washing machine, dishwasher, dryer etc during off-peak times (10pm - 7am). I just set the timer on and let it run overnight. Also anything that can wait, such as charging mobile phones, laptops etc I do overnight.

I started to do this when I realised peak period electricity (2pm - 8pm M-F) costs about 4x more than off-peak period and about 2.4x more than shoulder period.

I do not get any cheap options for electricity. According to Origin I have a standard domestic meter and here are the costs.

NSW RESIDENTIAL Energy Price Fact Sheet

Now I wonder if there is a way to get a better deal? Is it worth changing my meter?

thanks

  • I think the time-of-day smart meters are the top level, and you cannot go back to a constant rate meter.

But you should be able to churn off to another electricity retailer, and often they will have a flat discount on their charges (e.g. on Dodo, I get 15% off standard pricing).

    Check somewhere like this: http://www.switchwise.com.au/

  • Ok so does Dodo make you sign a contract? If so what is the term? thanks
