Jam jars 190g - 290g in size

I want to bottle my own jam and give it to people as presents, because I'm a real tight-arse. However I don't want to appear to be such a tight-arse that I recycle salsa jars, so I want to buy them.

Can someone help me get a decent looking jam jar (with lid) for a decent price?

  • what's wrong with being an ozbargain greenie and reduce/reuse/recycle? :)

retail jams/salsas/etc can have removable labels so their jars origin is unidentifiable

  • Tonester, there's nothing wrong with it at all, except the lid is a dead giveaway.

Nothing says "I'm a cheapskate" more than a salsa jar lid.

    • if the lid is plain black then how is it a dead giveaway?

      • The lid is rarely plain black - 90% of the time the lid has a design on it. The other 10% it's for a 1kg jar of something.

But you raise an interesting point. If I was to get just the lids then I could use my own jars and save on the cost of the glass.

But then I'd have to get lids which are the right size for the jars I use. They're not all the same…

        • most of my jars have plain black or gold lids :)

  • I'm not sure where you live, but there seems to be quite a few options

I got a few similar jars years ago when I was messing around with chillis. I think I bought them from The Reject Shop or Sams Warehouse. From memory about $5 or $6 but it was a nice slightly custom shape jar and lid with some fitting design on it.

Can't you just spray paint the lids?
