  • mmm anyone upgrading their s3 to this? looking for a cheap s3 to use

i wonder if the galaxy s4 nexus will be cheaper come june 26th :p

  • The S4 us a great phone but the market is so competitive. I went into Telstra in the Brisbane CBD and it no longer is their feature phone when you walk in. The HTC one is.

  • Anyone think this could be a price error?

For the S4 4G White, price is $659 after add to cart. Error?

    • $639 for the i9500, looks like it was a price error.

  • Yeah, when I add to cart the price changes from $558 to $659… :( oh well, no phone today then.

Well that sucks didn't change at 4am when I posted the deal, as that's how I got the delivery cost.

I am still very happy with my Galaxy SII; purchased very cheaply as switched from 3 to Vodafone, about $300 two+ years back. Still don't use or know of all those functions.
Only negative is the battery burns up quick. Still, I have several charging options, and recently purchased an in-car (lighter) charger for about $6.
Tempted to purchase as teen son is keen on my SII (he usually wants my phones although I restrict him to prepaid … I pay the bills!) Maybe for Christmas :o)
Must say the SIII did not seem to offer that much improvement.
That is an excellent price you have listed though for the SIV, considering the improvements from the previous.
    Thank you.

Totally. I have my S2 from 2 years back and still loving it. Prices on phones drop too fast, I think the money can be spent on better things. Just change the rom on your S2 and it will be good as new. Another 2 years would have gone by before you know it…

      • On the Gold Coast for a holiday recently I actually got around to trying out the "Navigation" (Up Blue Arrow icon) and "Navigon" (Orange eclectic icon) and they both worked brilliantly. For someone who never reads instructions, etc. I was very pleased with their performance. Friend (who used in car TomTom navigation) was warning me of extra phone charges on my return. Vodafone bill did not show any additional charges, so even more pleased.

I have one problem that you may be able to help me with; How do you change the "Home" setting to your actual home address now? Haven't worked that one out yet!

I would also like to know how to update the rom on the SII; if you would like to post me a link.

        Cheers

        • I don't really use Navigon, I use this app called Waze. It's pretty amazing little thing. And sometimes Google Maps.

Regarding ROM, you need to first root your device.
          http://gizmodo.com/5982287/reasons-to-root-your-android-devi…

You might have to back up your data and contact before you change the ROM though.
          http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-…

If you don't want to go through all that, maybe try using a launcher app instead. Example:
          https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gau.go.lau…

It provides you some customization options which can give your homescreen a revitalised look, without altering your personal info settings and whatnot.

        • Thank you for all those links; shall certainly look into all this. Would have expected that to reset "home" on these apps would be a simple thing to do though, or I wouldn't have tested them when away.

Although Vodaphone gives me 1GB of data to use each month on the phone, using the Navigation maps used little if anything of my quota. Indeed I usually only use it to check emails, and the odd YouTube, eBay checks, but still I always end up only using half this quota.

I have been a little wary of backing up data with it as I had problems with a Nokia when I tried to do that in Windows many years ago though. Hopefully there doesn't seem to be those kind of problems causing dramas again.

Yes, the Google maps is a great app too; love the way it accurately pinpoints your exact location, and position in the house as well. At the time I was thinking of loading a TomTom app into an iPad but that proved to be totally unnecessary.

For your battery problems I would suggest purchasing an extended battery.

They are about $15 and can give you a lot of extra time. Of course you'll have to sacrifice the thinness of the phone but IMO it still works out alright in the end.

Thank you Father "Ted" … just purchased one for $10.99 (from Sydney).

Glad I could be of assistance.

Now, have you seen Father Hackett? Dougal took him out for a walk to his whiskey stash a few hours ago.

          "Drink … Drink … Drink!"

(As long as he hasn't gone feral again running about starkers)

          I'll be having nightmares again.

          :o*

(Oops I posted response as a major not a direct one to you … I shall be exterminated)

    • What is your battery life? A flashed ROM will probably improve it. With normal use, I get about three to four days out of my Galaxy S, running Cyanogen.

      • That sounds like great battery life you have there.

My Galaxy SII usually only lasts a day with minimal usage. I do rely on my mobile as chief source of contact (although not prone to long phone calls), checking my emails several times a day. Camera usage really flattens the regular battery super quick.

I do have a in-car charger ($4 eBay), spare battery (about $5 eBay I think), external battery backup ($7 Banggood)too also so I don't risk losing contact. (Apart from just now ordering that 3500mAh battery for $11).

Everyone in my direct family uses Vodafone so we have free calls to each other. We are in outer suburbian Melbourne, only an hours south but if we ring Melbourne or further down the peninsula, it is basically STD rates! My call rate (very old 3 plan carried over to Vodafone) allows me 22c /10 minutes for national landline calls so I have no need of a landline phone at home. We use Wifi internet.

        • You ought to get more than a day out of your phone with that use. Camera has little effect on battery life. Screen brightness, background services and connectivity services are the main culprits.

A rom like Cyanogen would be good for you because it's kept much more up to date than the stock Voidafone rom. So bugs like the SNS zombie process bug some months ago are easier to detect and eliminate.

  • Exterminated myself.
    Have a nice week-end.

  • Weird. I had the S4 in cart (i9500) from last week. When I went to Kogan on Saturday night, the price in cart was $519

I went to checkout and paid $519 + $19 shipping.

Wonder if they will honour it. I dont need the phone - so if it is delivered, and anyone wants it, PM me. I am in Sydney CBD. Its black and octo-core version.

    • did they ever end up honoring it seijai ?

  • Not long before the price actually drops down to $550~ region without a pricing error.
