Laptop without Windows

I am a Linux guy, so I do not use Windows and I do not want to give MS any money so…. Is there a chance to buy a laptop that does not come directly with Windows?

I have asked so far at Sony and at Lenovo and they only sell in Australia laptops with Windows. Do you know anybody else that might sell laptops without Windows?

I know there are oversees places that sell them, i was just wandering if I can buy the same in Australia.

Thank you.

Sorry no Chromebook, I really like the idea of it but I need my virtual machines :). Also Mac is out of the question for obvious reasons. I started to consider MS a pussy cat compared to Apple.

Are you just trying to save money or do taking some moral stand against purchasing Microsoft products?

If you're trying to save money, then you won't be saving much. Notebook manufacturers get Windows licences for next to nothing.

If you have some moral objection against Microsoft, then grow up. Format your notebook and stick Linux on it. Tell your friends how bad Microsoft is, spruik their competitors and you've done your job. All the time and effort wasted trying to track down a Windows-less computer could be better spent getting your Ubuntu system working.

    • I do believe I have a right to decide what I am spending my own money on.

      • exactly

jelko get off your high horse

its a still a relatively free country where one can spend your money on whatever you like

  • Format your notebook and stick Linux on it.

    It's not always so simple.

Many are using tricky BIOS that effectively locks whatever OS is on it, and the HD so you can't just swap the HD out either. My Acer has a nasty Insyde BIOS that nobody has worked out yet, so for now I'm stuck with Win7.

    • this is exactly true

win8 has secure boot which is at the very least, problematic for non Windows 8 booting
