Installing Windows 7 without internal DVD drive ... Problem resolved. Thanks.

I tried to replace the HDD with a new SSD in my 6-year old laptop and now I found out my internal CD/DVD is not working. I don't think the bios can be changed to boot from an external usb DVD drive. Now I am stuck. Is there any method to install Windows 7 on this new SSD without an internal DVD drive? Any idea will be appreciated.

  • It is possible to boot from an external optical drive. just plug it to your laptop and it will detect it.

Another way is to use a bootable usb or "copy" your existing hdd to the new ssd.

  • Thanks. I was able to configure the bios to boot from removable device and I could boot from the external usb dvd drive now.
