Need advise on my next phone as my current contract will end in 2 months

Hi my fellow OZbargainer,

So my phone contract with virgin will end in 2 months. I am now eligible to upgrade my plan without having to pay penalties/fees.
I like to stay with virgin because my girl friend is with virgin and it give us unlimited free call and text to each other.
my budget is 30/month, and with their current offer, they have The Sony Xperia ACRO S( 0 upfront), Xperia SP(with $5 upfront) and LG Optimus F5( 0 upfront) all 3 on the $29/month for 24 month contract. They do have iphone 4 but i am not a fan of iphone.

The ACRO S has been release for more than a year, where as the Xperia SP and the LG F5 just been released for a few months. Despite that fact, the ACRO has a higher pixel camera, and higher on board memory. BUT it only has 3G. The other 2 phone has 4G.

I am new to this 4G, is it significantly faster than the 3G network?

Is this 4G feature really outweighs the better camera and higher on board memory the ACRO S has?

Also which out of the 3 has better Battery life?

Please give me your opinion on what phone is better.

    4G is significantly faster than 4G. I have a friend who gets 40+ MB/sec on 4G but 4G is pointless unless you live/work near the city.

    I would choose the Xperia SP since it's newer than the Acro S

      i live in Canley Heights/Liverpool (NSW)area, would there be 4G signal??

    Don't bother with the LG — they're bad at providing software updates.

    I'd get the Xperia SP. It has 4G, better cpu, gpu, and bigger battery. Cons are the 8GB internal storage and the camera may not be as good.

    One standout feature about the Acro S is that it is dust and water resistant.

    how about you dont renew the contract, get onto the virgin BYO where you get to save $10 a month. and buy a phone outright ~$240? this case you have the freedom to switch as well.

    not sure what you can get for $240 but if you pay up ~$350 nexus 4 is pretty good value but no 4g

    I deliberately changed plans so I didn't have free talk and text with the GF but she followed me, can anyone suggest a provider that doesn't have free talks and text to other members.

    Thanks guys for your comment. I might get the Xperia SP on Virgin 39/month .I have talked to virgin Rep,and they offer me 2 months free access.
