A family member got the 4kg version of this dryer (DE40F56A2) for $300 delivered but it didn't work properly to begin with - it would just stop half cycle. Warranty claim through F&P was processed, and they sent someone out to fix it. Turns out it was manufacturing fault and the door was not attached properly, causing the sensor to think that the door had been opened half cycle. Interesting thing was that they refused to unmount (take it off the wall) the dryer and insisted that the owner (who was a senior) had to take care of that before and after.

    • Terrible customer service! Hope they got their dryer sorted in the end

Yes it has been working fine after the fix :)

Honestly people, get the auto-sensing version (DE50F56E1 as mentioned in the OP) - not this manual timer one!

Your clothes will thank you for it, and lower electricity bills for the next ten years will more than make up for the tiny additional cost.

About $335 to $360 (10% more) for a VASTLY superior product

  • Power usage costs will easily factor into what you should pay for a dryer. If it's just gets occasional use, it's not as important, but if it's run 5+ times a week even just in winter, an expensive machine will soon pay for itself.

Here is a link to power usage, this model is the worst of the 5kg dryers:

Theoretically the electricity usage is pretty much the same. It's the RUNNING TIME that makes the difference in real world energy consumption.

A sensor dryer switches off when the clothes are at your desired "dryness" level. Usually there are 5 settings.

With a timer model, you have to guess the time. If you set it too short, then you just have to run it a bit longer if the clothes are damp, which is just a bit of an annoyance.

But if you set the timer too long, then the dryer runs longer than it's needed. That means wasted power, and "crispy dry" clothes.

I am not sure if the MEPS (Energy Ratings) allows for this aspect or not.

Also, with a sensor drier you can deliberately set it not to fully dry the clothes, which is great for linen and cotton. Totally drying these makes then hard to iron, but leaving them a bit moist makes it heaps easier to iron!

  • Ah well i just bought one myself.

I asked a few people they said the electronic usually breaks down faster than the manual ones.

I hope i didnt make the wrong choice :s

    • I have a REALLY old F&P sensor dryer, probably the first model. It's at least 10 years old, probably more like 15 or even more!

It looks a bit average because the plastics have yellowed, but it's been awesomely repliable.

The electronics and motor have been 100% reliable. A few months ago the rear bearing failed. Crazy high price $30 for genuine replacememt… I used a brand new the wheel bearing out of a Razer (kids) scooter which cost me $2.

  • Ok i found the autosense online for $335 and rang bing lee to change my order to the autosense one. Unfortunately they could not match the price but did give me the lowest price they could do which was $380.

If anyone lives in melbourne heres the deal. Pick up available

    • LOL, you beat me to it!
I was just about to post it

Are there any other clothes dryers I should be looking at before going for this one?

      • No idea but i read this superceded the old model which has had rave reviews.

What a headache finding a good dryer lol
