After seeing ybad's Battlefield 3 post today, I noticed that the workaround works for the entire Origin Store. Some games are on sale at the moment and I've bought a few with no issues. All you have to do is disable Javascript in your browser. This can be found in your browser settings or Google 'noscript extension'. I have only tested paying with PayPal. You should enter a US address (here's a classic: 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA 95014)

Noteworthy mentions:

[Game Name - US$ (AU$)]

Battlefield 3 - $5 ($5.40)
Battlefield Bad Company 2 - $6 ($6.50)
Burnout Paradise Ultimate - $6 ($6.50)
Command & Conquer 3 - $6 ($6.50)
Command & Conquer 4 - $8 ($8.70)
Crysis - $6 ($6.50)
Crysis Warhead - $6 ($6.50)
Dead Space 2 - $6 ($6.50)
Dragon Age Origins - $8 ($8.70)
FIFA 12 - $6 ($6.50)
Mass Effect - $6 ($6.50)
Mass Effect 2 - $8 ($8.70)
Mirror's Edge - $6 ($6.50)
NFS Hot Pursuit - $6 ($6.50)
NFS Shift 2 Unleashed - $6 ($6.50)
NFS The Run - $6 ($6.50)

Also works on pre-orders, one of the more ridiculous examples was $39.99 for FIFA 14 as opposed to $69.99 in the local Origin Store.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

  • Nevermind, misread, thought with the workaround that could get any game 50% off :P

  • lol, there was a time when crysis was $1

great prices all around, I bet MS can't pull this with their xbone :p

    • There was also a time when Burnout was free.

Also note there is an additional TAX fee.
Well I got it, unless anyone knows of a US post code I can enter that doesn't have sales tax. Which I assume all US states have.

      • +3

anytime better than the 'premium tax' on aussie prices

        • +1

agreed, these fairer prices mean I pirate much less :). Publishers really need to learn how bad over pricing a game can be. But then again we don't have to get it at their price since there are a lot of Steam and Origin key websites around I rarely purchases the game from Steam or Origin.

At $50 I would never buy Grid 2. But $30 sounded fair to me and I bought the key. But then you have big fans of the game who want the game straight away and will pay nearly anything. I guess I'm lucky I'm not one of those gamers and finish the day with a little more money in my bank account.

EDIT: I guess I should also say DRM makes me less likely to buy a game. What happens if the companies who run Steam or Origin go broke. I herd at least steam has a backup plan but I would like to hear it before I go crazy and buy tones of games and I haven't bothered to find out what happens in 20-40 years if you want to start playing that old game again.

Would be very interesting if my steam account never got deleted after 100 years and my great grand children could use my account to play all my retro titles. :)

        • the day that EA goes broke is the day when every single person in this world drops their controller and says they won't play FIFA anymore… that will be just as bad as soccer itself dissapearing from sports

not likely about bankruptcy but more likely about their policies on keeping older games alive looks at MS

      • Anchorage, Alaska 99515 has no sales tax.

However I don't think tax was applied in the checkout, and I used Beverly Hills 90210. So I'm not sure.

  • Did anyone else paying by Paypal get asked to enter a phone number?

I don't remember seeing that before.

    • They've been doing that for a while, I entered my Australian phone number and it worked

  • I picked up Fifa 14 on pre-order.

    Thanks! :)

  • I got BF premium and the Assault shortcut. There goes my social life (at least for the holidays).
