and was just looking to find if there is any adaptors available for airplay or something when I found this deal currently at grays online.

$569 plus delivery — $49.95 for melbourne — $618.95 delivered.

Grays online - Haven't bought much from them but they have been ok in service like most online retailers.

3 months warranty from grays online as its refurbished.

Current Prices ::

DSE, HN, JB HIFI, TGG around $1000

Cheapest new with 12 month warranty online : $899
http://www.napf.com.au/products/Product%20Catalogue/HIFI%20A…

Bought mine for around $800 on sale and no regrets !! Goes well with TW6100W as a complete home theatre.

My personal review :

These speakers are awesome regardless of what some people say in reviews or forums.
I went through extensive research when buying and now after 6 months I can say this ::

1) Most suited for Age bracket under 35 years or people who love loud music
2) Genres like rock, pop and Blu ray movies play great !!
3) Awesome value for your buck. There is nothing in comparison even nearby when considering watts. When considering quality, equal or better than Yamaha 696 system available at JBhifi which my neighbours have.
4 They look Badasss !!

Pros:

Looks, Sound quality and BASSS
Led rings on receiver ( Cosmetic but works )
7.2 Channel. 7 speakers (Lots of surround)

Cons :
Yamaha receivers have more equalizer and audio settings whereas here you have 3 modes out of which Game is best suited for everything
No network features like onkyo or other superior receivers.
No Bluetooth, Airplay. Just 3 HDMI in But I've solved this using ebay 3 HDMI splitter.

I wish to offer my personal view on the Sony Muteki system to balance OP's review.

I have auditioned and compared the Muteki against real mid-range stereo and home theatre systems (receivers: Rotel, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony ES, Onkyo, Denon, NAD, Arcam, Cambridge Audio, …, speakers & subs: Richter, Polk, PSB, Krix, Velodyne, Focal, Paradigm, JBL, KEF, Tannoy, B&W, …) and my opinion is that the Muteki is not worth the money.

The Muteki does two things well: loud (but distorts the sound badly) and bass (one-note only). If all you want to hear is the boom and the crash in movie special effects, and you want your music loud but don't care how it sounds, then this system does fine. It is hard to beat this deal for value for money. If you want accurate reproduction of the soundtrack, the effects, and music then please buy real hi-fi equipment.

Well if someone's somewhat of an audiophile, they should know better than to buy a HTIB. Safe to say, that people buying this is just in it for the doof doofs at the lowest possible price.

I'm sure theres a group of people in between audiophile and those wanting the lowest price and loudest speaker who are trying to get a quick solution that will work well. Those people will be interested in how this performs.

        • Well said sir.

        • Agreed. I'm no audiophile but I can hear whether a system reproduces sound accurately and evenly across the spectrum. I would not buy a system like this, but I do wonder how they can manufacture it at this price.
I would stay away from a refurb, though. Chances are the previous owner blasted the hell out of it and blew the amp or speakers.

        • Less time spent on R&D and tuning on the crossovers, no fancy diamond or kevlar drivers and most importantly, no bump in price just for brand name. I bet the $30000 speakers out there cost no more than $3000 to produce.

so if you have auditioned so many, what in your opinion is the best value for money HTIB?

      • I auditioned mostly separate components, not HTIB. Most HTIBs are badly let down by mediocre speakers so I was intrigued by the massive 7.2 package offered by the Muteki. In the end I bought the Yamaha 673 receiver ($430 JB special) with Richter 501 speakers ($500 HN special) and a custom made sub ($1200). Sources are a $99 LG DVD and a $1200 Arcam CD players. The sub and the CD player are overkill, but I bought them with a view to upgrade in the future.

      • Go and audition as much speakers as you can in your price range. If you can't hear a difference or frankly just don't care, then buy htib.

    • alvian:: Thanks for your review. Obviously, you look like you have done more research and have more sense of judging music quality.

Honestly, I am just somewhat of an audiophile so for me I never really saw the difference. I think there is nothing compared to it in looks, loudness and surround even closeby say under $1500.

Another thing to notice, These speakers don't perform the best with out of the box settings so you need to tweak the settings related to different speaker ratio once and select game mode, the sound is very different to stock.

That is a good point. Hifi shops do not stock the Muteki, and I listened to it in a quiet and near empty GG shop. Don't think anyone bothered to set up the system any more than hooking up the cables.

Contrast this to a high end hifi shop, whose staff once spent 20 minutes setting up Krell pre-power amps (on special $30,000 the pair), a Luxman CD player, and the entire B&W 800 series for me. And mistakenly swapped the left & right channels.

Tempted. I bought a much older version of these speakers second hand for $600 about 4 years ago, and I liked them.

Checked postage. They don't ship to Perth. Decision made.

      roadtrip? :D

They wouldn't fit in my Smart Roadster

hard to get something as badass looking for that price

      They are real estate hogs.

    wont ship to WA :(

  • Do note that this is a refurbished unit. Last time I bought a refurbished blu ray player from them and the player really looks like an old second hand player. Scratches everywhere and even the remote looks yucky.

But you saved a few dollars off the new price, so it was a bargain. (Using some peoples logic on here).

  • Been eyeing off this system as an affordable 7.2 solution, I'd have bought them if they shipped to Perth.

    • 18 months ago my sister wanted a new system for her house. She did not want to spend 1000's on a kit and lived in an area where high end shops were non-existent. She was trying to decide between the Muteki and the Pioneer Todoroki system. The pioneer system is only 5.1 however she chose it over the Muteki for a few reasons.

      1) The price was cheaper, not a factor at OPs listed price

      2) The size of the system. this is a massive system with massive speakers. They take up alot of room.

      3) It sounded better to her. Cannot answer this for anyone else. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean you wont like the sound. Try and go for a listen, if you like it? great! Reviews can only give you so much, your ears are far more important when choosing an audio system.

IMO I would not buy this system not because its good or bad, but because it will lead to you wanting a better system in a few years. I would suggest saving a few more dollars and getting something better. That been said, this is a cheap price and if spending lots of money isn't justifiable.
