Anything better than Billion 7800NXL for under $160 in terms of range?

Looking to get a new wireless modem/router for a friend so they can use it from corner to corner of the house as their current wireless is dying and just hasn't got the range. I've settled on the Billion 7800NXL as best bang for buck, but thought I would ask you smart fellows if there's anything better around that will pump a stronger signal.

My priorities are less on features, as its for a technologically illiterate person, and more on range and reliability. Needs to last a good 2 years and not cause hassle. And needs to be the same price or cheaper, coz that's my budget. NBN-ready is preferred, AC wireless is not necessary.

Is there anything better or have I pretty much chosen the best option?

I personally prefer that model, it is all you want. Reliable, fast, somewhat nbn ready and good range; besides I think it's the best bang for buck.
Bought it, plugged it in… And never even bothered with it again, just worked. Till a few months ago were I got interested in trying to get some more speed out of it using the SNL method, and let me tell you it is freaking great! I am reasonably far from my exchange and for the same reason my internet speed has always been considerably slow, but once I altered the SNL I managed to get 2MB/s (yes megaBYTEs/ ) out of it very stable. Before I had around 700-800 kB/s…
I will give billion a 1+, since my experience has been hassle free. :-)

    • Thanks, I've got the 7800N at home and its been great for 2 years. Been lucky enough to have around 2 MBps as well, my biggest problem is upload speed, hopefully that will change when and if I ever get onto the NBN -.- Do any manufacturers other than Billion have a 2+ year warranty on them??

      • Hmmmm, I think the upload issue is with all ADSLs in Australia. Since I have experienced the slow upload with pretty much all the places I have been; that's why I use my universities internet for upload purposes. Just out of curiosity what is the upload the upload speed you get?

And my billion had 3 years warranty as far as I can remember… not sure about other manufacturers.

        • around 80 KBps

        • Wow that's way less than mine, and I thought I was having it bad! I can get normally around 130 and on a good day (more likely night) it can jump up to 160-70ish…. :-D
          Sorry for the late reply.

At my old house I was lucky to push 30kBps.. But we are moving again soon so hopefully we will get something faster. Then I can start using plex out of house :)

  • I have recently bought a TP-Link Router/Modem/Voip unit for $98 and it is superb with great helpful support. Wifi range is excellent and I can get fast wifi connection on my mobile phone all over our two story house and all around our 950 sq.meter yard.
