Tablets with Wacom Digitiers

Since a lot of tablet/phablets are now coming complete with Wacom Digitisers built in, when will the prices of Wacom Cintiq graphics tablets come down, or won't they?

  • They won't because Cintiqs are just better in terms of feel and accuracy than penabled wacoms. Hopefully they will come down but I get the feeling they will opt to improve the cintiq design by having better power supplies, better gamut and brighter displays.

  • As someone who owns a Cintiq, i'd be interested in replacing it with one of those tablets. Has anyone had any experience with them?

My Cintiq 12WX (older model) is really clunky to use with the huge powerpack and display adapter, has a pretty low resolution and a display which never seems to quite replicate the same colours on my Macbook Pro.

However, the tablet functions of the Cintiq are amazing. I've been thinking about selling the tablet and get a Windows tablet instead. I think i'd be more inclined to draw with a better display and added portability.

Hey Bacon, in the past I had the 12wx and know full well what you are talking about. You might want to check this. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151069206084

The new Helix windows tablet from Lenovo. Has the same pressure sensitivity as the 12wx but obviously more portable. No wires, no fuss. Just a pen and tablet.

Display absolutely kills the 12wx. God they were horrible displays. Terrible backlighting and colour gamut. And hooked up to a macbook book pro? For some unknown reason Apple's graphic cards don't play nice with Cintiqs.

I think you cant go wrong with a Windows based tablet like that. I think you would be very lucky to sell your 12wx for $500 since the 13hd sells for $950.

      • Phwoah. That Helix tablet looks amazing. Might be worth looking into selling the Cintiq… and maybe replacing the Macbook Pro with it…

It is a pity the Cintiq's have dropped in their worth suddenly since the new ones were released, they kept their value for a really long time. But I've had it for many years now and got my worth out of it.

Well, if you sell it for $500 I think you are doing pretty well. The macbook pro while nice is not great with digital drawing imho.

Pros for the macbook pro if it's the 2011 upward. Nice displays although with the current retina display I don't think there is anything better on the market. Supposedly good battery life. Depends what you do really. I get 4hrs on my Retina 15 pro.

But I say get a tablet pc if draw for fun. You can take it anywhere whereas the Cintiqs require the person to be rooted in a spot with a powerpoint.
