Which laptop should I Buy

Hi Guys,

Need your expert advise.

I want to buy a laptop for me but am stuck in finalising one. I was think of going for Mackbook pro with retina. i even checked the new range of Sony which is also pretty costly.

I am certainly looking for an i7 with a good graphics card for playing some games. frankly I wont be doing any programming and all.

Any suggestion much appreciated

Cheers

i7 won't help with games much, your GPU will hold you up all the way. Your options for gaming are:

1: Something with a HD4000 (on an i3/i5/whatever). Will only work well for older/less demanding games.

2: Something with a 7670m/630m/similar. Will run most games, but not high end.

3: Something with a 670m or better. It will cost lots more, be bigger, heavier, louder, hotter and use more power.

Otherwise just get whatever brand/size/keyboard you like. Unless you go for option 3 even an i3 will not hold back any game.

  • I have a i7 + 640M and I find that even that combination starts to struggle with newer games even with graphics scaled back. I would not go down the way of a HD4000 if you want to play games. It all depends on your size/weight/mobility requirements, you may find your money better spent on a gaming desktop if you dont need it to be mobile.

Neigther for games. They will both only play older or simple games. The i7 is a complete waste of money for gaming on these systems.

I'm with Bruce on this one….you have two tarted up netbooks there, neither with real gaming credentials and a high price tag (esp the MBA). Going by this I suspect you have a need for something mobile and lightweight.

These may be alright for you, but it will be good for you to do some of your own research and decide if you want something lighter, need a touch screen etc.

Samsung NP470 - good GPU (AMD 8850M), mobile i5 processor

Asus K56 - good GPU (GT 730M), ULV i7 CPU
        http://flingshot.com.au/computers/laptops/asus-k56cb-xo389h.…

HP DV6 series - heavy but good GPU (GT 630M) in this and a full voltage i7 Quadcore CPU - not so portable and not great battery life though

If you have to choose between your two choices, then the Sony is better value for money
