Free or Low cost shipping?

I know this topic has been touched many times in Forums but I am really bit curious to understand that how is this happening?

I bought an iphone cable from Ebay and it was some supplier from Sydney who posted me it for $1 + free shipping. We know that in Australia shipping is so expensive so how come they are makign money or else how they are offering it so cheap?

Anyone can answer this please?

  • I think it will cost them shipped with ebay fees around 60-70c

  • I'm very curious about the fee too.
I just wonder what AU post gets to delivery items from China?
And why AU post charges a lot of fee for sending an item?

I just paid nearly $50 to ship oversea (under 2kg.) and $8 for small box to post it locally.

Once, I ordered an item from Ebay (in AU). The seller paid $4 while I sent it back they charge me $7 (same item & same package.)

  • i'm also interested, shipping in aus is so expensive so i wonder how they do it for free

  • I know exactly how this is done. Let's just say the stamps aren't exactly purchased from an Australia Post authorized seller.

    • I'd just say they're nicked from work.

  • Well when from UK they dont pay VAT on international sales, So therefore that money goes towards postage.. Giving free postage, Im down with that as there RRP is lower than oz normally anyways

  • A parcel to Au from Hong Kong under 50g costs something like 28c. I don't know what portion of that fee makes it into Auspost's hands, as international mail settlement rates are not published, to my knowledge. But it is possible that China Post subsidises their mail system to make their export industry more competitive.

In Oz, I sometimes get items mailed in letter rate envelopes if they are less than 25mm thick. In theory, you are meant to use a parcel for non-documents, but it the envelope is under the weight and size limits it a chore to pick-up.

I once had a parcel held at the post office for being overweight for a 500g satchel. Apparently the PO can collect the extra postage from the recipient or return the parcel. My PO master knows me so let it through.
