Woolworths Online - Price Increase

Does anyone else use Woolworths' home delivery service? IMO it is quite good; even though prices are a bit more, if you stick to the specials it makes it worthwhile, even with the delivery charge. You can sort by unit price, are less likely to buy things you don't want and less likely to fall for the subtle psychological marketing tricks (I'm a sucker for 'buy 5 get one free' deals). Doing my shop this week, I have noticed they have put up the prices of many items, particularly fruit and vegetables, which I do not think can be explained by seasonal factors. A couple of small examples: beans have gone from $6 to $7/kg (16% increase), 2kg potatoes from $5 to $5.50 kg (10% increase). I'm sure there are many others too. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Fruit, vegetable & meat prices change almost weekly, just the same as in store. They are always more expensive online though, except for specials.

  • I noticed a jump in prices in store this week - so online probably just matches the jumps (with their online premium on top).

  • fruit and veggie prices are very volatile, and u cant really say its been jacked up coz its up from last week.

Example, my fruit shop had bananas for 1.29 on Monday, by Friday its 99c.

    Week after its 1.59.

    very very volatile.

  • I didn't have a car for a while so used it a lot.

Like you say stick to the specials. As its being delivered scan through expensive items and if they aren't there note it on the paper you sign, call the call centre they refund those items. I was missing stuff probably 40% of the time. If this happens a couple of times send them a complaint email, they will give you a voucher code for free delivery. Even if you don't let the driver know they refund without issue.

Sometimes you have windfalls, like I bought a couple of bottles of spirits they mustn't have had the 700ml versions so they sent the 1100ml versions :D. Also with the deli if you don't need much order the minimum allowed. They will always send a bit more. Same with meat if you buy 700g or something and they only have 600g on the shelf they will grab two of the 600ish ones.

  • Just ordered my third delivery online. Just arrived with no dairy, no deli, no fruit and vegetables and no biscuits and snacks. Missing over $80 of produce that I now have to get redelivered. Thanks for nothing woolworths!
