How much did you save using your ING 5 % off deal?

Have you got an email from ING, saying 'you have pocketed over $ 250 using the 5 % off'? I am sure almost every OZBargainer milked more than $ 250 from ING. I got the email this morning at 9 AM WAST.

I am starting this thread to show a few of my non-OZBargain using mates (and thus OZBargain-bashers) as to how much they can potentially save.

  • I got my card just today. Can I shop more than 100$ a day and still get the 5%? does the 5% include online shopping too? Thanks

    • You can use this to gain 5% off transactions $100 and under using PAYWAY™. This mean's you use the RFID on the card. The Eftpos machine must accept paywave. Most big providers now use this technology (Coles, Woolworths, BWS, BigW etc)

You can use the card multiple times per day, anything over $100 ie. ($100.01) will not be eligible for the 5% cash back.

This is not for online shopping, you need to pay using the physical card. Common sense.

Just to clarify, it is $99.99 and below (under $100).
I made the mistake of putting through at $100 and got no 5%. Checked ING website and it did say under $100.

I made $0 from this, would have been $25 if I put through the transaction correctly.

Also, I note Aldi does not have this technology yet

        • Correction - it would have been $ 5.00 earned, unless you meant that you earned $ 20 from previous transactions.

I made $0 from this, would have been $25 if I put through the transaction correctly.

        • Total $515 purchase.
          5 x $100
          1 x $15
Only got 5% on the $15, so I lied a bit, made $0.75

PS: do I have to cancel and apply for another card now that this is over. Anyway to do a rollover?

      • The 5% is over. Read below:

"Presenting an ongoing 2% cash back on payWave purchases under $100 from 1 July 2013.
If you want in, simply deposit $2,000 or more (from any external bank account) into your ING DIRECT personal accounts (excluding Living Super) each month.

Perhaps pop your salary in. Just give your payroll people our BSB: 923-100 and your ING DIRECT Account Number."

Better to have your money in a high interest online account. Commonwealth Goal saver is paying a bit more. RAMS has an excellent rate. It offers a better rate than others if you do withdraw during the month. Bonus rate if you deposit $200 per month with no withdrawals.

        • The 5% is not over yet. It's still available to existing customers today and tomorrow, and to new customers for their first 6 months.

Congratulations on getting the ING card. You have made a very good choice.

I would suggest you use the ING card ONLY for PAYWAVE transactions that are contactless(use an alternate card for places that do not have paywave). Always confirm at the shop counter if they accept Pay Wave transactions, and if the machine is working. (A lot of times at Caltex fuel stations, they have the Paywave machine, but it is turned off for some reason)

If your total is $ 100 or over, tell the salesperson your card has a less than $ 100 per transaction limit and that you are going to use the card multiple times to make the payment. Yes - I used the card Four times to pay for a Bunnings bill of about $ 350. To be safe, use $ 99 per transaction at the maximum.

To answer your specific question -
      1) NO, each of your transactions have to be less than $ 100 and
      2) NO, you can not avail the 5% off discount on online transactions.

  • I was all excited yesterday to be using my new ING card for the first time…yeah, well…they didn't have paywave :( Can see this is going to be a source of frustration for me!

So that's $0 so far! I expect it to rack up quite a lot though, even if just for all our groceries and petrol.

I've put everything possible* on the ING card (when i haven't used my rewards credit card) and I've saved $1690 since October 2012.

The cards been used at least twice a day for the past 8 months :)

    *Everything Possible includes:
    - My bills paid at AP in $99 blocks
    - My parents bills
    - My partners bills
    - My partners parents bills
    - Petrol
    - Groceries (avoid some Aldi's as not all have Paypass capabilities)
    - Lunch
    - Shopping
    - Items on OzB from officeworks/DSE where they've allowed me to pay in $99 blocks ;)

    • That is a good effort! $33800 of transactions in 8 months.
Can see how you did it with your list above.
Wish I particpated since 2012, I only recently joined in March 2013 (So only get 3 months worth)

    • Top work!

      • My partners bills

      At the same time?

      • Sometimes.

    • How do you pay bills with ING card? Post office would not accept credit payments for all my bills, cash or EFTPOS only.

  • OZBargain-bashers

Forget them. They aren't likely to start posting deals no matter what, so if you get them looking at OzB you are just increasing competition for good deals.

  • have just applied for the card.. & hope i do all these saving in neext few months..

@ crazycs - good on ya for
    - My parents bills
    - My partners bills
    - My partners parents bills

Most bills cannot be paid by Credit Acc. so it is not possible to use Paywave for 5% discount.

    • Even if you hit savings it prompts the paywave tap.

  • I haven't received the email, so I guess that means I've saved less than $250. This doesn't surprise me since I only use it for supermarket shopping, petrol (and I don't drive much) and a few other things. I pay all my bills online and spend more in online shopping than in stores. I want a card that gives me a discount for using it online :)

  • Hi PissLUR,
Great news, you've pocketed over $150 as part of the Orange Everyday Wave & Save 5% cash back offer.
While the current offer ends on 30 June 2013, we're keeping the good times rolling due in no small part to your feedback.

All those savings will be used to pay my $150 speeding fine. :hammer:

You are a good citizen, saving for the government.

      • I saved $78 from this and got a traffic infringement from local council for $168 for stopping in no stop zone for couple of secs when the 2 lane road in front of me is fully blocked by 3 lines of traffic. I appealed on the ground of unfairness, but their argument is that if they manage to get a picture that's enough for them to prove. Even though I didn't intend to stop there or didn't change gears. I just had to brake due to the traffic block on the road. Be careful to go in front of me next time. I will be pushing your car from the back if I had to slow down or brake in no stop zone. That's what council wants.
Greedy council. Hope local council is under more financial pressure than us to use all the cheeky ways to earn money.

I need to save more to recover for this unfair fine. Hope ING will keep renewing my account for next few years.

  • I saved over $400.

  • $300

  • A tad over $400

  • any one knows are they any news agency / golden casket in brisbane that still take paywave?
I found one at inala 10 weeks ago , but they have changed their terminal and wont take paywave anymore (and no more surcharge)

need to buy 5% off lotto!

    • -1

lotto purchases is not credit purchases but a cash advance.

beware, bank will charge you for interest and cash advance fee.

  • If you download transactions in CSV format, you can derive your actual saving using Excel.

$335.73 for my account, plus my wife's. Should be well over $500.

  • About $440. Will miss the offer tomorrow. I still haven't received any indication from ING that the 2%/$2k deposit offer is on from tomorrow, despite a few people posting on OzBargain that they've received such emails from ING.

    • From this thread and from other mates, I learnt that any ING customer who bagged more than $ 250 in discounts received the email about the 2% ongoing discount offer.

I am keenly keeping track of the other thread by Muncan where the OzBargainer promised to let us know if closing down the account and reopening would give him an additional 6 months of 5 % discount.

Obviously, ING have been able to penetrate the Australian market with the 5 % cash back offer, which is why they are continuing the offer - albeit to new customers only. On that logic, any optimistic bank would extend the offer to a returning customer in order to retain the built up customer base.

If you are keen on the 2 % offer, I would suggest you to call up the bank.

  • Damn! I don't use my paywave enough!
    $56 for me!

    • +2

When people say they saved say $500, they must have spent $10000 so that its 5% is $500.

you saved $56 so you spent only $1120, so you saved $10,000 - $1120 = $8880 when compared with others.

Or otherway round, you saving lot more by not shopping for unnecessary stuff :D..

  • So true. Why spend 95% more on unnecessary things for a 5% bonus? In true tight ass fashion I keep my spend as low as possible. The 5% is just an added bonus.

  • I have started splitting payments up in places and keeping it still legal…i.e, if the bill is $140, I may pay 50 cash and the rest by paywave or split it amongst different cards to get the max benefit from this

I'm also thinking this is something I can probably use for myki…have to go to a 7-Eleven though rather than the myki machine and again do the split technique if the cost is above 100…so far i'm loving the 5% discount
