Australia Post Digital MailBox is now in beta

There was some talk about this service a while back and its now in beta, so not sure how useful it will be in this phase as not many providers have signed up (only Yarra Water and AMP from my understanding).

"We’re excited to announce the public beta release of Australia Post Digital MailBox! You can now register and start using your secure digital mailbox, while we continue to test and improve it.
By using your digital mailbox now, you can be first to claim your username, connect to the selected service providers, start receiving some of your mail digitally and begin storing your important documents online.
Plus, you can suggest other service providers you’d like to receive your digital mail from in the future."

iOS App also available.

There is a rival service called Digital Post Australia which has been running for a while. Has anyone used this?

  • doesn't bpayview already do this stuff?

  • +1

I already pay my phone bills, energy bills and insurance online… so how exactly is this going to make things any different?

Also, having all your mail stored in one place is also pretty risky — one password leak is all it takes to compromise your many accounts with your banks, telcos and credit companies for example.

    • Its meant for more that just payments ie. statements from banks, share registries and other service providers although you can just set-up your own email archiving system.

  • Woohoo, so now the government can add your AusPost digital mailbox to list of services (Online email accounts, apple, facebook and probably eHealth records) already being shared with PRISM.

Maybe I'm over reacting :) But it's always worth thinking about.

    • I agree. The NBN is another method however I want speed so I'm not going to complain as there will be no other choice however I believe sensoring and filtering is going to be much easier to implement now. No one seems to care about privacy these days. As long as its quick and easy thats all that seems to matter. Lazy has replaced security and privacy.
People think that by having so called security settings setup its all safe and hackers and others that pay money are instantly unable to access information.

      Good luck with that.

      • Long live the VPN… I wonder how much longer VPNs will be allowed before they become 'kiddie porn tools' haha.

  • Yeah plus it will put Postmen out of work and onto the dole.Sounds like a great idea(not)

    • Yeah sure like this is going to deliver your Meritline bling.
