  • Picked up the Men's one today. Good Quality and cheap for what it is.

    • saw this in the paper today

Also said 20% extra off instore, did it apply to this item

      96% Polyester

      Yikes

You might get a shock when you wear these.

      • No. Was the same price instore.

Its very light and surprisingly comfortable for the warmth it gives you.

What about the printed grid pattern on the material? How does that look?

        • It's alright. Personal preference I guess. The Altica fabric actually feels pretty nice for polyester

        Yikes

        too much or not enough?

polar fleece clothing is usually 100% polyester :)

I can't say a RRP of $150 is even close to reasonable for a plastic jacket =.= Kathmandu are the masters of inflated RRPs.

    • Pretty much. I used to buy them way back when they were just becoming popular, but after discovering the huge range available from the US it seems so crazy over-priced. My last down jacket cost me $50 from Lands'End and its way nicer than my old Kathmandu one. Merino stuff I buy IceBreaker from NZ stores like Outdoorsportz.co.nz

Hi yanman, would you mind sharing which US stores you normally go shop your gears from? Cheer…

        • +2

I buy most of my gear from either Backcountry.com or Sunnysports.com, sometimes Moontrail.com. A lot of big named brands won't ship to Australia though so you might need to go through a shipping agent but even with the shipping, a lot of high end stuff still works out to be hundreds of dollars cheaper than here.

        • Sierra Trading Post, Backcountry, RIE.. just use google product search and you'll come across a lot. Those ones are good for brand names.. Lands'End sell their own stuff which is damn good too.

        • don't forget LL Bean - btw it's REI not RIE :)

    • +2

Don't knock "plastic". Polyester is excellent for sports gear.
The days of polar explorers wearing wool are long gone - its all synthetic now.
Down is still lighter, unless there is any chance of getting it wet.

      • +1

The natural fibres are still preferred for inner layers, synthetic is for outer. E.g. wool/cotton is good as a thermal layer, then insulation (fleece, down) and then wind/waterproofing. I consider jackets in this deal are somewhere in layer 2-3 zone for hiking in cool dry weather or jogging with a cotton t-shirt on.

        • natural fibres are still preferred for inner layers,

In the city, yes, but Kathmandu is supposed to be an outdoors adventure shop.
Cotton is horrible when wet - be it rain or sweat. Wool better, but i still don't want it on my skin.

        • patagonia capilene is best :)

    • They have 50% sales on that often that I can't imagine ever buying close to RRP for any of their gear. I do like a lot of what they stock, but would never buy it outside of a sale.

      • +2

True ozbargainers never pay full price!

Title of the post is incorrect, there are no womens jackets for $29.95.

Cheapest womens jacket is "Rios Jacket Women $39.98"

As per the text of the post, $29.95 gets you a womens hoody (the hood of which will make you look like the grim reaper according to the photos).

  • Is there a way around the $10 shipping?

    • ya the $30 was cheap I was going to buy it then saw the $10 shipping :(

I'm too much of a cheapo for this.

    • Go pick it up?

  • is this men's jacket better, or the fila fleece for $25? Thoughts?

  • Kathmando do seems to have been studying the Dick Smith tactic of 'bait and switch' sales of non existent stock. Nice one..NOT!!

  • Shame about the chest panels in the Men's jacket. For women I can understand but on men's jackets just looks cluttered/less classy.
