  • Don't know about the W100, but I have the THL W8 which is the 5 inch variant of the device.

Its a great bang for buck device, battery life is a little short but otherwise performs well and has no issues.

  • Thanks heaps for your answer
whats the difference between the W8+ and W8 Beyond?
    Thanks lots
    Cheers

    • Different CPU and Back Camera, better in W8 Beyond.

  • +1

I would not buy it from thlmobilestore.com, it is NOT an official THL store (I think Chinavision is their 'official' online vendor).

I ordered this phone from thlmobilestore.com two weeks ago and after being messed around for a few days I looked into them (which I should have done beforehand) and found that they are one of the many [email protected] (PayPal account) stores which a lot of people have had problems with.

After getting a number of messages saying my phone would be sent in a few days time I sent them an email asking for a refund and I IMMEDIATELY got a reply saying my phone had already been sent out (original invoice said this would be from Singapore, this email said Hong Kong and came so quickly it was obviously automated should they receive a 'refund' email!). I raised an issue via PayPal detailing all their contradictions and was continually bombarded with "your phone is on its way", "we're not a scam site", "please close the complaint" messages from them. When I told them I was keeping the complaint open until I received the handset (as you can't open a second complaint if you close the first) they said they'd "phoned the post office and got the phone back" (yeah, right) and would not send it until I closed the complaint!! I told them if they had the phone back just to give me a refund instead. To their credit they did this straight away (suppose they don't want PayPal closing them down) although it's not hit my bank yet from PayPal.

Anyway, I ordered another one from ibuybou.com on Friday and DHL tracking says its somewhere between HK and Australia as we speak. Bit dearer but at least they're a decent site. You could also look into using pandawill.com if they have stock (didn't last week).

As for how the phone is I should have it by Tuesday or so I guess. I'll let you know!

  • Thanks heaps maty for the head up.
Iam sure i ll avoid THLmobile store.
man looks like you had bad time with them.
Thanks again i ll check the other web sites
    Have a great weekend
    Cheers

    • Yeah, was a bit of a drama but I paid with PayPal so wasn't that worried.

I actually made a typo in my msg above, I eventually bought the phone from www.ibuygou.com. They've put the price up now I see but it's still USD159 at pandawill.com.

The THL W11 ('Monkey King') is due out this week too - similar thing but 5" display if you want to go large!!!

      • Re: W11. Major caveat is the non removable battery. The capacity is not that generous either, 2100mah from what ive read.

  • OK, as I posted elsewhere in this thread I'll just give a (very) quick summary of this phone. Mine arrived yesterday so I've only had a day or so to play with it.

First impressions are it's good - very good, in fact - for the price. You'll have seen the AnTuTu banchmarks and general performance online no doubt so I won't go into that except to say that it's all pretty snappy and the screen is great given its pretty lack-lustre specs (dpi etc.).

Battery life seems fine - even with being used a lot on the first day as I installed and set up the apps it lasted all day. They also provide a second battery but the back cover is pretty flimsy so I wouldn't want to be swapping them all the time in case it loosens. I got a free 'cover' case with mine as well as the standard clip on 'shell' which is alright, not my style but it's there if you want one. Personally I like my phones naked but it's good to get some kind of cover as given its an unusual phone you'd probably struggle to buy one when you're out and about.

Couple of downsides with it as far as I can see. Internal memory for apps is just under 1GB, too small really for me. Sure you can move apps to SD but it'd just be better to have the internal space better partitioned - maybe when the phone gets some traction there will be hacks to do this (previous phones I've had have had this available). Don't bet on being able to put a load of games on it etc. as is. Also the sound in-call is a bit shitty. Not for you, you can hear the other party fine, but to the other person you sound a little muffled. Finally the current info out there on rooting doesn't seem to work with my device - maybe there's been a subtle update of the firmware recently??? Not sure.

As for data performance, on Kogan I've got around 5-6Mb/s down and 1Mb/s upload. Good enough for me.

All in all it's great for the price - at < $200 its pretty much a disposable phone. If I get a year out of it I'll be pretty pleased.

EDIT: Oh yes, standard Gallery app supplied doesn't show photos you may have backed up on other handsets to Google+. Probably just needs an update to the app or something but I've not looked into it yet. It's minor annoyance though.

  • Good Evening there Matey
Thanks heaps for the detailed info and Iam happy that you did like the phone.
I ll order mine from Pandawill, jus got togo Sydney on the 27th,ll not be back till 21Aug,so i ll order it then.
Iam not into install games on the phone, just the normal app and an offline gps program(Sygit)
Thanks alot again for the info
    Cheers

    • If you're using Sygic just be aware some people claim the GPS takes a while to lock on with this handset - it's been a common problem with some THL handsets which they've tried to address. Some W100 reviews say it's fine, other still complain about it.

I've not used it yet so can't say one way or the other.

  • How often recharging the phone? once a day, once every two days ?

    • It's easily lasting a whole day even this weekend when I had it bluetooth tethered to my tablet for long periods so I could get online without paying for hotel wifi. I don't think it'd last two days but I always charge my phone overnight so I wouldn't know. Having said that, you get two batteries so could always take out a spare if you know you're not going to be able to charge it for any reason.

      • thanks for the reply, mine arrived today, haven't yet had time to play …

  • I like it it but it's rubbish in sunlight.
