Electric Heaters for a large room

Hiyas

We have a wood heater, but I would prefer a electric heater.
The loungeroom is about 60sm enclosed, but will only be turned on in the arvo and switched off at night before bed.
I know the small fan heaters chew through electricity. We don't have access to gas and no $$$ for reverse cycle.
What is better, oil, ceramic, radiant, or something else?

Thanks !

    ONLY THE BEST
Noirot have manufactured and refined their Panel Heating Range in France over the past 40 Years.

During this time they have continuously researched and obtained the best quality parts to offer the most efficient and economical product on the market.

This was achieved with the exclusive one piece Monobloc Aluminium Electric Element, which has a World Wide Patented Design and a lifetime guarantee not to make a noise.

    NUMBER ONE CHOICE
An extremely accurate Electronic Thermostat, reads the room temperature every 30 seconds, plus the unique lifetime full replacement warranty, makes Noirot the No.1 choice Electric Panel Heater in Australia.

Lockable, childproof settings are integrated into the electronic thermostat, and all Noirot Spot Plus heaters are fitted with a thermal safety cut-out to give you peace of mind.

    ECONOMICAL
Economical, reliable and exceptionally comfortable. Noirot sits at the very forefront of heater innovation and technology.

The revolutionary Monobloc heating element is totally silent and the non-expanding front panel means no rattles or creaks whilst you’re keeping warm.

    PRECISION THERMOSTAT
Every Noirot heater is fitted with a Noirot Precision Thermostat. Even after years of functioning the thermostat maintains the desired temperature within 0.1 degree Celsius which ultimately leads to reduced heating costs.

The Noirot Lifetime Warranty now means that Noirot is for life.

Totally safe. Totally silent, no fan. Allergy free and asthma friendly. Economical.

    EFFICIENT
Unique highly efficient European design utilises the expansion and upward movement of hot air to gently circulate around the room, whilst the patented element with increased surface area heats larger volumes of air more efficiently to provide a low cost heating alternative.

    THE SPOT PLUS DIFFERENCE
The exciting Spot Plus heater range from Noirot is truly revolutionary. Combining European style and state of the art technology, it ensures you’ll find the right heater for the right application every single time.

The Spot Plus range is 100% silent due to the patented Monobloc element, thereby eliminating creaks and rattles.

    CHILDPROOF
Lockable, childproof settings are integrated into the electronic thermostat, giving you peace of mind as well as peace and quiet.

    HEAT THAT MOVES WITH YOU
Our optional Easy Glide Castors means you can take the warmth with you wherever you go. Simply slide your Noirot heater from room to room, plug it in and it’s ready to warm.

    SUPER EFFICIENT CONVECTION
The Noirot Spot Plus range takes advantage of the natural process of convection to make heating your home efficient, effective and totally silent.

Air is heated as it rises over the patented Monoblock element and is continually replaced as cooler air is drawn up inside the heater by the warmer air rising.

As the air cools it then falls towards the floor and is again drawn into the bottom of the unit.

    PRECISION THERMOSTAT
The Noirot Precision Thermostat ensures that your room always maintains the desired temperature within 0.1 degree Celsius and prevents overheating and energy wastage.

    EXCELLENT SAFETY
All Noirot Spot Plus heaters are fitted with a thermal safety cut-out and feature rounded edges for safety.

With no fan to move air around the Noirot range is also ideal for those suffering from allergies or asthma. Noirot really is reliable warmth you can trust this winter.

  • Thanks, but seeing that you're in Sydney, and I'm not, postage would be a killer.

  • Electric throw blanket. No need to heat all that space. I love mine!

  • it depends on the individual needs and the space it is used in.

ceramic panel heaters like the Noirot are the best portable electric heater available today, for clear, small-medium size room — like a bathroom heat lamp, they don't circulate the air but radiate heat directly onto other objects in the room. if you have a very cluttered space or a long distance, the heat won't work very effectively.

the next best solution would be reverse cycle air-conditioning, they heat the air and can effectively heat a large space, provided it is well-sealed against draughts and doors are not regularly opened and closed — if you open and close and walk through a doorway, you are moving several cubic metres of warm air outside, which can be a significant heat loss, (ie. many $$ of energy lost); a drawback of reverse cycle is the noise of the fan unit, and the warm air being blown onto your face which is rarely pleasant (heating is most thermally efficient and most comfortable when coming from floor level) and can be unhealthy for some.

if you have the money to spend on it, in-floor heating, such as hydronic slab heating or wall mounted hydronic radiators are still the most energy efficient heaters available. but even a basic setup is costly (I've had quotes for $7000 for a 4 radiator + boiler installed, whereas in Europe it would cost about a 1/5th of that).

if you're on a tight budget you can buy a water-filled radiator for $60-100 which will do just the same job as a wall-mounted radiator or ceramic panel, with thermostatic control and timer, but the are ugly, heavy, hot-to-touch (keep out of reach of infants) and noisy (the metal makes a creaking/clicking sound as it expands and contracts which can be irritating if you're a light sleeper).

  • Thank for that, I ended up buying a Noirot. Can't go wrong with a life time warranty either.

The above heater is still available if anyone needs to be toasty warm this winter :-)
