I'm looking to buy a low-mid range 5.1 receiver to use with my existing speakers. Not after anything too fancy. Built in blue-ray would be handy.
Budget around $4-500.

Don't buy anything with a built in disc player!
Buy something that has sufficient HDMI inputs for all of your current and any future media devices.. ie DVD/Blu-Ray/CD player, xbox/PS3/WiiU/Other games console, Hard Drive TV Recorder, Media Player.
At that price, brand shouldn't really be a concern.
eastwood were doing the rx-v473 the other week for $399 , that's a decent amp for the money

Bought the Yamaha RX-V573 2 weeks ago for $499. Great unit but the V473 is just as good for $429. Not much difference between the 2 mainly 5.1 vs 7.1.

I bought a Denon 1713 recently, fits my needs perfectly. I think one of the cheapest prices you'll be able to pick it up is $450, I got mine for just under $500
