  • Fairly sure this is not cheap!!!

    • Yeah, the price depends on the standard,2G RAM 32G ROM, 1080P,etc are the lightspot.

      • +4

        I assume lightspot = highlights :)

      • unfortunately, the brand power is not strong enough. The specs can't drive the sales. For non branded phones, $200 is the maximum price I will pay.

        • +2

I'm not affiliated with the shop in any way, buy have been doing my research as I want a 2GB RAM Quad core with 32GB ROM phone. Most are around the $300 mark. Right this moment, you won't get one at $200.

        • -2

are you telling me you wouldnt pay more than $200 for a non branded phone even if it had an i9 octo-core cpu, gtx titan gpu, 64gb ram, 512gb ssd, 100k dpi screen, atomic battery, coin thin, titanium casing?

        • im saying for non branded phones in general not this phone in particular.

        • +1

Nope, because all those specs would be overstated.

    • Im not 100% sure if its the best price, but compared to www.pandawill.com it seems like a reasonable price as it is the upgraded processor model. They are selling it for US$349 delivered http://www.pandawill.com/zopo-zp980-upgraded-smartphone-mtk6…

There is a slower version of it that is cheaper at DX.com though at AU$329.04 delivered. http://dx.com/p/zopo-zp980-mtk6589-quad-core-android-4-2-wcd… (1.2 VS 1.5 processor)

Keep in mind this is a very high spec phone even if Zopo is not a well known brand here.

  • +2

That's almost A$363.00! I doubt this is better than Neo 003 2G/32G OTG MHL.

    • Agreed, there are a few equal spec alternatives eg UMI X2 for 299USD from PandaWill. I don't know what the Zopo usually sells for, but for a phone of this spec and 'quality', the price is nothing amazing.

    • Where can the Neo N003 with 2GB be ordered from though?

  • Actually, this is a decent price. Falling short of a "bargain" but a decent price nevertheless.

Could be better, throw in a case and screen protector and it would be a bargain.

    • Don't forget the 16GB free original micro SD card mate (Valued $13.36, check our SKU 32494)! it's better than give you a screen protector and a case right?

  • +3

IMO better off paying a little more for a S3 from Kogan (even if it's grey)

    • -4

Or add $240 more get a S4 i9505 from Kogan,

    • +1

Or pay less and get a 4.7 inch LG Optimus 4x HD.

    • +5

Or pay nothing and just keep your existing phone.

      • +1

I agree, saving your money is better than wasting it for something you dont really need

  • Not a spectacular price by any means but a little cheaper if someone was looking for a phone like this.

I also wouldn't pay more than $200 for a Chinese phone but I have owned a couple (currently have a UMI X1), as long as you know what it is you're buying (and the level of after-sales service you'll receive if there's a problem) I definitely wouldn't write them off.

  • I've got one of these and its a great phone. Specs are considerably higher than the S3 (about the same as the S4 but 1/2 the price), amazing screen, great feel and construction. Price though is about right and not really a bargain. Keep in mind Its Telstra Next G/Vodaphone only (850 mhz). Quality of some brands of Chinese phones have increased dramatically and I would not hesitate in recommending one of these. Not long ago I bought my Mrs a 7 inch tablet that she loves for just over $100. Great little tablet, only let down, its called an Ainol. At least Zoppo doesn't sound too stupid.

  • +1

(about the same as the S4 but 1/2 the price)

What about 1/2 the speed of S4?

The Antutu benchmark for this phone is no more than 14000. S4 is 27500 +

    • True, its closer to S3 speed. Happy with mine though, but you can get it cheaper on Aliexpress.

    • I have the THL W8 using a slower version of the chip (1.2Ghz) and pairing it against my wife's S4 on the home WIFI, there isnt really too much difference from a real world's perspective in terms of speed. Surfing the web was just as quick between the two and realistically you may struggle to find an app/game that can show the difference. Yes, the bench numbers say it is almost double but its about every day use.

The ZOPO ZP980's specs are slightly better than the S3 in as much the screen is better (non pentile, Sharp 1080p screen same as the one used in the SONY Xperia Z), way better camera and twice as much RAM / storage as the 3G version of the S3 for $150 less.

      • You rather have this over Neo if both are the same price?

To be honest, both Zopo and Neo are better than S3.

        • Hell no! :) I still have my Neo order from 2 months ago in the system. Eagerly awaiting for next week for Lightake to send out..

To be honest - I did get sick of waiting for the Neo after the June announcement of another delay. Then I tossed up between the iOcean, Umi X2, Jiayu and Zopo C2(same as this) for quite some time but figured it would be best to keep waiting. The Neo did bump up the price to over $300 and its all pre-ordered out now from most places.

I do like the look of the Zopo C2/ZP980 though.. Some people say its Fruit Phoneish, but I dont agree. :)

Ozbargain is a bargain forum not a free form of advertising. I'll say what everyone else is thinking, decent price, but NO DEAL!

  • -4

This is terrible, that 3g frequency isn't going to work well with optus, let alone worldwide.

    • +1

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks

Sorry, but the 2100Mhz Frequency is overwhelmingly the most popular frequency in the world.

    • +1

It'll actually work well with everyone, except optus.

      • It is actually not for everyone, especially optus customers

      • I'm using TPG (Optus) with 2100Mhz on my THL W8 and it works very well. Its only if you are going to go rural that it will have a bit more difficulty picking up since the range of the higher bands is shorter.

  • Yes bring back something more like UMI X2 just when it's a break through> 250-220aud.

    • I was looking at the Umi X3, about to pull the trigger, but every review had a manufacturing problem. Apparently Zoppo have a good name for themselves in regards to being manufactured well.

  • This is actually quite a good price for this model.

  • Happy to wait until latest models today becomes $200 in a few months time.

  • Hong Kong is selling the same model at HK$2500, I have to say this is a good bargain. Please note that A$ has been dropped by more than 15% vs Chinese RMB recently so you can hardly found good bargain now. Maybe Google Nexus 4 is a good bargain now in terms of cheaper A$.
