Sourcing a comic artist

Hi all,

I'm looking for an artist who can create a comic-strip like book/page/something. I was wondering if anyone has sourced out a comic artist before? Any recommendations on where I should research? How does the pricing work generally? Not entirely sure how all of this works. Would like to source a local one (Melbourne), but online would be okay too if I can't find anything that fits my taste.

Any information on this subject would be appreciated.

Cheers.

  • Hi,

I've worked with a very talented artist called Matt Baker.

He's not locked in to one particular style or another, so his work can reflect your style instead. Communication is efficient and organised, he always meets his deadlines and is exceptionally good at coming up with creative solutions when the brief he's been given is a little sparse:)

if they can not help, then they may be able to recommend someone.

Due to their cartoon camps aceoss Oz, they may have lots of contacts.

  • Do you want physical art or digital?

If you are after digital you could try looking on tumblr by searching the tag for the style or topic. A lot will link back through to their deviantart portfolio. There are some crazy talented people worldwide looking for commissions and will art for you at very reasonable prices, mainly because they like to be paid a little something to practice, especially it being summer holidays in northern hemisphere and graphic/art students are hoping to earn a little spending money. I got the most amazing piece of artwork for $80 and it's fantastic and would have taken hours and hours and hours!

I think a company called marvel or something might make comics? I'm not to sure if they're any good though

  • Thanks for all your help. Appreciate it.

I did have a quick look on Deviant Art prior to making this thread, but many artists that I clicked on did not do commissions. I certainly will be doing a more thorough research though.

At the moment it is just an idea. I think digital would be nice as it is reproducible. I'm hoping to make this something very special to those involved so price isn't really an issue.

  • You might find someone on odesk.com.
