Looking for a 10" Android Tablet ~$300 before Aug 30

Hi all,

I was looking around for an android tablet for about $300. What do you think of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $277 from Office Works.

If you think there may be a better deal, please let me know. I have until before the 30th Aug (birthday present).

Cheers,
Lycan

    Great price for a 10"
No mention of a new model Nexus 10, so unlikely to be much better out there.
I recommend playing with the Galaxy Note. The stylus is VERY cool!

Aussie stock. 10.1". Quad core CPU + quad core GPU. 1GB RAM. 16GB flash + 16GB SD.

My Tab 2 10.1 doesn't scroll as smooth as I'd like.

  • Thanks for the suggestions! Any more ideas??

    • Seriously no good 10.1" tablets in the Western market, apart from N10 and GNote10 as mentioned above. Other decent 10.1" tablets are generally found from the typical chinese vendors with them now stocking tablets with RK3188.

Since its for a Bday present and not for yourself, the GTab 2 10.1 is not bad - but almost a junk tablet with outdated hardware. Full of bloatware and thus laggy. Owner will probably be quite frustrated with it. But who cares? You're not the one using it ;)

As an owner of a chinese-brand tablet I can say there are both pro's and con's of getting a non-branded tablet.

    Pros:
Value for money, far superior performance to branded tablets of similar pricing.
For e.g, $200 would get you a quad core tablet (Ainol Hero, Cube tablet series etc)
Lots of choices in terms of form factor and screen resolution. Want a 7, 8 or 10.1 inch tablet? Need retina grade display? It's all covered.
Stock Android experience with very little in terms of skinning and bloatware

    Cons:
    No formal tech support
Sketchy warranty, impossible to buy from a brick and mortar store, Aust consumer law does not apply
No 'brand name' (mostly psychological but for non-savvy users brand name is sort of an assurance of quality)
All sorts of hassle when you get a tablet that has a defect or is shipped with a lousy firmware that requires updating (not something the average Jane can do)

  • I'm thinking of going with a Pipo M9 from i luv pc…

    Thoughts?

    • I've never heard of that shop before. Do some research before you buy from any place that's obscure.

      I recommend you stick with
      Merimobiles
      Mp4nation
      BuySKU
      GeekBuying
      FocalPrice
      Deal Extreme
