Cancellation fee for various hotel booking websites

I notice that sometimes even when the hotel offer free cancellation, a process fee is still applicable (charged by the booking website) for cancellation and amendment.

Does anyone know if any of the hotel booking sites below charge processing fee for cancellation? I went into live chat with Rates to go and hotelclub operators, they both claim to have no admin fee but their website (http://www.hotelclub.com/bookingconditions.asp) says cancellation fee apply, so i am pretty confused at the moment.

Agoda
Rates to Go
Hotels.com (I think hotels.com does not charge any admin fee for cancellation)
Expedia
Hotelcub
venere.com

Thanks heaps for your help!

It all depends on the booking site. You are dealing with two parties so there may be up to two cancellation/amendment fees.

Sometimes you can find a good rate via a booking site and then do a search for the hotel's site and find that they offer the same deal. Then you can bypass the booking site.

    • Just keep in mind that sites, like Hotelclub give you a percentage back, so the hotel rate should be less than that percentage you get.

its usually the HOTEL that sets the cancellation fee

Check both booking site and hotel policy. I've booked a few trips through booking.com for aug & september, booking.com Dont charge their own cancellation fee, and the particular hotels give free cancellation up to 24 hours before checkin. Hoping to snag a last minute deal on priceline or Hotwire and cancel my backup hotel.

  • Thanks mates for the information!
