Best Sub $90 Chinese Tablet? PIPO S1s?

Been considering the PIPO S1s tablet at banggood.com for $89.99 http://www.banggood.com/PIPO-S1s-Dual-Core-A9-1_6GHz-7-Inch-…

Is there a different tab with better specs/build for the same price? Or can i get this one cheaper somewhere else? Cheers for the help.

It's got the following specs:

CPU RK3066 Cortex A9 Dual Core 1.6GHz
GPU Mail 400
Operation System Android 4.2
Memory 1GB DDR3
Capacity 8GB
Screen 7 inch Capacitive Touch Screen
Resolution 1024X600
Battery 3200mA

  • S1pro is better for the price, from banggood also.

  • S1 Pro $101.99
    Quad core vs Dual core
Front Camera vs no front camera

Don't need a camera. Is it worth the extra $?

    • Its all in the RK3188 CPU. Battery saving and performance alone is worth it.

      • The battery is the same spec on both models does the quad CPU help conserve battery life? If so by how much would you say?

        • The RK3188 is based on the 28nm fab process while the older RK3066 is 40nm. In simple terms the newer RK3188 is more power efficient than the RK3066, while at the same time being more powerful and completing tasks quicker.

Its well worth paying the extra for RK3188.

        • This and 5hrs + battery life confirmed on the S1pro.

Also banggood have the standcase for it.

  • 3 hour battery life from other reviews.

Also, no GPS, if that matters to you.

    For $20, I'd go quad.

    Imho.

  • Many thanks guys definitely going the quad appreciate the help. Battery life is important to me.

Just make sure it is an English version of android, NOT a Chinese version converted back to English. I've tried a Chinese tablet before, you have to disable the non English apps as they cant be uninstalled as part of the operating system and had lots of problems with downloading apps from google play as the tablet was not recognised as a compatable device for many English apps. Ended up returning it

    • How do I find that out? I've never heard of this :-\

    • The reason it wasn't compatible was likely more due to hardware (eg. CPU+GPU) than the OS itself. Languages don't matter on Android…

Yes, there may be chinese apps that were loaded on the system.img - but once you can root the tablet, they can be removed without a fuss.

    • had lots of problems with downloading apps from google play as the tablet was not recognised as a compatable device for many English apps

As bob_wangkar points out, this happens when you buy a tablet that has a MIPS-based processor (e.g xburst series) which is not very popular in the mobile/tablet industry. MIPS processors have compatibility issues with many apps on the Play market.

  • I purchased this: PO M9 pro WIFI Version. I think it is a PIPO, but I am not sure, but I don't care as the specs are really good for the price of $88.99 with $15.99 delivery. I am glad I got it. I purchased it 2 hours ago and they are selling like hotcakes on ebay. He put another batch on when the previous batch sold out. It has retina screen, 1.6ghz, gps, 3g, 2gb ram, 32gb nand flash memory. I really like the fact that it has 32gb internal storage and 2gb ram.

I cannot put it in "new deals" list, because that is not allowed. They have to be a power seller. Its not a seller from china, it is from australia. I will just put down the name from ebay.com.au which is:

3G 32GB GPS 10.1" RETINA IPS RK3188 QUAD CORE 4.2 ANDROID TABLET PC

If he sells out, just keep an eye on it, as he might put another batch on

    • He's got 2 processor speeds in the description: 1.6ghz and 1.8ghz

    • too cheap to believe it is true…..
other seller still selling around 200-300

    • WARNING: IT HAS BEEN 25 DAYS AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT. MAKE SURE YOU USE PAYPAL SO YOU CAN MAKE A CHARGEBACK IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE IT.

I AM GOING TO GIVE THE SELLER ANOTHER 10 DAYS

      • 30 days is normal from china don't stress unless its been 45 days.

      • Paypal said they will refund my money very soon and the case has been closed. Make sure you open a case before the 45 days is up as you cannot do it after 45 days. The lesson learnt here is if it is way too cheap, be wary. Now I will just buy things with a "normal" price or cheap price, but NOT TOO CHEAP as this was the case with this item. By the way, he still has an account, but surprise, surprise, his online shop is empty now. If you didn't pay with paypal you use the ebay resolution one.

    • I am not going to post anymore bargains from ebay ever again here. And he's supposedly a good seller with 98% customer positive reviews. I am hoping I still get it, crossing my fingers.

      • Yes, paypal gave me my money back. Yes, a good seller with high percentage of positive customer reviews, can turn bad, he's a scammer I think because, why is there NOTHING in his online ebay shop now?

    RK3168 it's 28nm dual core

pros - local stock warranty, 10.1", low cost, comes with OTG cable

cons - dual core limited to 1.2GHz to make extra hours, not as fast as RK3188 quad and bad viewing angle.

    • and more expensive

  • I would personally save up for a better one. I know I will get downvoted for this but sometimes spending more gives you a better user experience and a much better quality product which will likely last a great deal longer.

The first thing that comes to mind is a nexus 7 (2012 would still be good for about $150-200 refurbished or possibly new depending on your luck, I didn't research the price vigorously) for a bit more.

Obviously if you absolutely cannot stretch your budget, ignore this post, it's just my opinion.

Every experience I've had with ~$100 chinese tablets has been a nightmare, avoiding like the plague :(
