Chasing an amp

hi all,

can anyone recommend an amp that will do the the following

have 5.1
let me plug my component, hdmi, rca (well maybe not) stuff into it, and have the one hdmi for video out. switching is it called?
have a few hdmi inputs
have hdmi out
a plus would be that if i dont need to run optical in for each hdmi item. let the hmi carry the audio an the receiver just play it
be cheapish!

i have speakers

i want it to sound good, but im not an audiophile
games an movies is what it will do.

thanks'

  • You're not going to have much luck with the latest crop of gear if you want decent selection of analogue inputs and upconversion to HDMI. You may want to look for an older second hand receiver, such as a Denon AVR-2307.

  • HI there

It would be better if you added some detail !

    EG Budget
Eg What components you intend to put thru your AMP /AV RECIEVER
You need to ask your self WHAT do I NEED to put through this AMP !

All Av amps should upscale the RCA input to HDMI out as a standard
but as stated by previous post the CHEAP AMPS may not
have enough of the OLD connecters, so depend on what you are adding
and is it still something you use

Its a current Harvey Norman deal $498.00
for a pioneer AV receiver and a Bluray player as BONUS
Its capable of 5.1 and even supports 7.1

Its upscale's to 1080P (Page 16 of the user manual states that ALL INPUTS ARE SENT TO HDMI)

All HDMI OUTPUTS and INPUTS will decode the AUDIO You will NOT need to run a separate OPTICAL or COAXIAL audio lead if you use HDMI on ANY AMP that I can think of)

This amplifier can be firmware updated which is a must

Check out the links and the SPECS below

if looking for HDMI cables check out

    http://www.selby.com.au/hdmi/hdmi-cables.html
    or
    http://www.ezyhd-cables.com.au/

do NOT buy form Harvey norman or JB as they will want $120 each cable

    INPUTS

    • 6 x HDMI
    • 3 x Composite
    • 1 x Component
    • 1 x Coaxial
    • 1 x Digital Optical
    • 1 x USB 2.0 host
    • 1 x iPod/iPhone Digital via USB (cable included)
    • 1 x Ethernet

    OUTPUT

    • 1 x HDMI
    • 1 x Composite
    • 1 x Subwoofer pre out

  • cheers guys

i suppose i can get away with having component in if i have enough hdmi in
atm, i have foxtel, ps3 and wdtv live going in, except i only have 2 hdmi inputs. the amp i have doesnt upsale, so i need to run a separate component cable for my ps3. however as run i run a projetor, thats not really viable.

price-wise, cheaper the better obviously, but if if its like 700 bucks ill live without it, as i said, im not that much of an audiofile

2nd hand is ok. tht hardlynormal deal seems ok.. ill check it out further

    thanks
