Website problem. don't know where to start :(

Hi guys, would appreciate any help in finding information about this, I have tried google but thats confused me more somewhat. Basically my dad wants to change something on his website but the guy he hired to do it for him (not the company that designed the website but the guy who was suppose to get the company to do the website…hope that wasnt too confusing) is now gone and I need help finding how to get into contact with the website people or how to change information on a website. I have no idea where to start since I am so bad with that sorta thing.

If it helps it says "Interior Design © 2011 Privacy Policy" at the bottom, which i presume is the company that did the website. I have googled them but can't track them down.

Anyway if you need any more info please tell me.

  • Hi mate,

You could start by using a whois lookup service such as found at the following:
    http://whois.net/

Type in your website address and you should be able to see who the host is for the site (hopefully it's registered in your dad's name).

Then I'd suggest contacting the host and telling them you're the owner and that you'd like access to the login details for your site.

    Good luck.

  • What was the URL to your site?

Your dad will most likely have the FTP details for the webhost - from there you should be able to gain access to the files of the site which will give you access (most likely) to the login details if it is hosted using a CMS, or the plain HTML files to make changes as appropriate.

Other than that, what Slick said above should help.

  • Like SlickAU said doing a whois search is a good place to start. It may not work if they have some sort of whoisprivacy enabled but in that case you may be able to find details out at the TLD registry.

If you need help inbox me the link to the website and I'll see what I can do to track it down.

  • Hey thanks for the replies everyone, I work night/early morning, just to explain my slow reply. Sure I will try Slick's idea and thanks exc, but I'm a total noob at this so didn't really understand what you said but thats no fault of yours. Should I not be able to do it, I'll give you a pm blockey but now need some sleep…so tired, but appreciative of all your replies!

  • Why not start a new site from scratch? :D
