Apple USB Power Adapter Takeback Program

Here's one for you…

Apple has launched a takeback program where you can drop off your dodgy cheap knockoff USB power adapter and they'll sell you an official one for $10 USD equivalent.

Not sure if this means you can get an official AU power adapter for AU$10 + cost of dodgy cheap knockoff power adapter… but no harm in trying, right? (unless you get electrocuted in trying - that might cause harm)

  • FYI

    • 1 power adapter per device
    • Must be a swap (old for new)
    • must bring in ipod/ipad/iphone for serial validation
    • $10 USD
  • So is that in Australia as well? Sucks for us people who don't live near an Apple store in that case :\

    • EEV blog does a great (but lengthy) tear down of two fake chargers.

  • Has anyone tried a <1A trade for an iPad adaptor when presenting an ipad?

Has anyone tried a USA power adaptor? (anyone bought some chromecasts recently?)

  • Anything about replacement of Macbook Magsafe Chargers?

  • Apple are at it again.
    US $10 = AUD $11 + GST = $12

The extra 15% cost is a special "f*** you" bonus to Australians for complaining that prices were too high compared to the US.

Apple: one PR gaffe after another.

    • wrong
"For a limited time, you can purchase one Apple USB power adapter at a special price — $14 AUD (inc GST). "

      • I think he's referring the the fact that before the A$14 price was announced the website said "$10 USD or approximate equivalent in local currency."

Considering the respective RRP (A$25 v's US$19) we're getting pretty much the same discount, so the A$14 price is no more of a "f** you" bonus than we're used to getting.

I was all keen to swap one over, but $14 isn't as tempting.
