Motorola Xoom vs the Galaxy Tab2 10.1 WIFI + 3G

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a reasonable cheapish 10.1 inch tablet that can easily be rooted. I would like the 3G as I have a wireless broadband subscription. I first looked at the ASUS eee Pad that EB Games had on sale, but after reading a lot of bad reviews, I have decided to not buy it and instead look for something else. My eye now has fallen on either a Motorola Xoom 2 or a Galaxy Tab2 10.1"

So which one would YOU buy in my case? Has anyone got either of these tabs and if so, what do you think of them? They both come with Jellybean 4.0 out of the box, so software-wise they would be nearly identical.

Cheers :o)

  • They're pretty much the same hardware wise too, http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4464&idPhone2=…

  • Hmmmm in that case I'll get the Xoom 2. Its only $360,- for the 32 GB version :o)

The galaxy tab does say it gets the jellybean update, and has glonass gps support though.

  • Hmmmmm, if the Xoom doesn't get the update, than I will root it with Jelly Bean :o) I am not sure though, how much difference there will be performance-wise between HC and JB anyway. If there is a real noticeable difference, than yes, I would go for the Tab 2….

    Toshiba AT100 Thrive 16GB - 3G version for $199.

Doesn't have the most amazing specs, but has 3G, 10.1" in size and is under $200.

  • Thanks! I wonder what "shop worn packaging" means….. Show model?

    • Says its 'Brand New'. If it was a demo model, I'm sure it would say…

  • ozhunter, Tab 2 is unfortunately not getting the 4.3 update :(

So for me, there's no reason why I would not get the Xoom or even the Toshiba :( Android 4.3 is fantastic. I have it on my Nexus 4 and it is very VERY smooth. Would've been awesome if the Tab 2 got 4.3 as well. I would definitely buy the Tab 2 in that case, but alas…..
