Bargaining/Haggling with Telcos on phone contracts and plans

I'd love to hear some stories about how someone got a great deal on their mobile plans/contract by haggling with sales reps, whether in-store or online. I've been trying to get out of a plan myself.

I recently got a really good deal on my adsl 2 and home phone from my current provider, I posted my situation on whirlpool. I'll try to link it, I'm using my phone atm.

  • Yep, had a rep quote me over the phone which was incorrect. I called back a day later to accept, but they would not honour it.

Went straight to social media and they sorted it.

(Vodafones old $45/month unlimited everything plan with 1GB of data with a HTC One for total $50 a month for 2 years)

I have learnt over the years, that sometimes the cheapest deal is the best.

For our home phone, It's essential that we have a proper phone line (ie not VOIP), my wife is a relief teacher, and if she misses a days work it's costly.

We also went to Telstra 2 years ago and the speed increase was impressive.

We signed up again on the same plan, and they continued with the $20 discount, we are paying $135 for the top of the range service (pinnacle)

We also find dealing with Telstra a far lot easier than other telcos.

I also believe you can't compare the service of Vodafone/optus to that of Telstra Mobile.

  • In my experience the cheapest is the best.

I have been with vodafail for almost two years and my contract is almost up.
I rang up and told them that I wanted to cancel my contract.
They asked why, I said because your reception, and customer service were both poor.

They said it would cost $50x months left on contract, but for a good gesture they gave me 40% off for the following months untill the end of contract.
