In before someone complains about the $60 membership cost required. You are able to refund it at anytime during the 12 months and get your $60 back, even after using it to purchase stuff. Just remember that if you do, you forfeit your bonus Costco warranty on stuff (which allows you to return items to Costco for an exchange for a reasonable time outside of the standard manufacturers warranty).

Can I complain there is no Costco in WA?

      • +12

I do… and Aldi. We'll get them one day.

        • +1

Waiting for someone who would say something about this.

        • Have u got 7-11 Yet?

    • And I think if you cancel, you can't make a new membership for another year. Not sure if this applies per person or household though

      • comments removed

      • per person

      • u can sign up again 30 days after you cancel… i did :)

  • OP it says $800 less $90 for a coupon.

From where does one get this coupon if not already a member?

    Thanks.

    • +8

      It's automatically discounted.

    • +1

They call it a coupon because Americans are nuts about coupons.

But Costco coupons are always "automatic coupons", which really just means it's temporarily on sale for a discount. You don't need to give them an actual coupon or voucher or anything.

I have the 32" model in the bedroom where I couldn't justify/fit the 42". Great TV, fast interface, plays 1080p MKVs with DTS (and even softsubs) natively, supports Netflix/Hulu Plus/Amazon Instant Video. The Australian apps are pretty crap though.

FYI, if you're interested in Netflix or Hulu Plus, the 670A series also gets you a 12 months of both for free, worth USD$192 once you change your TV region to the US. (I used UnoDNS.)

The Hulu Plus deal requires you to make a new account, but the Netflix will just credit any account $95.88.

    • hey mate,
how did you get hulu plus on the 670a?

      • You need to use a VPN or UnoDNS — other smart DNS providers like unblock-us don't support the 2013 Sony's, at least not yet.

        • cheers mate - just looked into it, seems its only 3 mths hulu plus - not really worth it for me to reset tv/change region

        • Odd. It was a year when I did it last month.

        • Just did it now, got a year for Netflix/Hulu Plus.. You have to go to the specific free year app and follow the instructions. Very happy!

    50Hz Screen Refresh Rate

Damnn, it looked so good too.

    • +3

It might be a 50Hz TV but it still has the Motionflow XR 200 processor. Personally I think it looks fantastic and no worse than my 100Hz Samsung in the main room.

      • So you're saying I won't get motion sickness like I do with standard 50Hz TVs?

        • Concord. You are the person who really understand TV.

  • +1

If you look at the Hz it will confuse u more. Why 50Hz =200 cause sony doesn't count the blank frames it inserts. It actually much better picture or if not as good as 200Hz

  • Anyway to price match elsewhere?

  • If you look at the Hz it will confuse u more. Why 50Hz =200 cause sony doesn't count the blank frames it inserts. It actually much better picture or if not as good as 200Hz. It a technique they use in cinemas to stop motion blur. Basic a black frame resets the eyes. So the next frame that comes out is a clear new image

    • If 50Hz = 200 does that mean my Sony KDL46Z5500 with Motionflow 200Hz = 800?

  • forgive me, but I can't accept having to actually open the picture to figure out the size. Please put in title.

    first world problems

    FYI - 42"

    • +3

well the model number tells you
the KDL is well dont know but the 42 is the size then W would be the series I think and 670A is the model
all tvs are like this, the first number is the size of it

  • Costco were setting up a few new tv's this week at Docklands, including the 75 inch from Samsung. $5500! bang

  • +1

Wish my sister bought the Bravie a few years ago with the PS3 bundle :(

    • Thats why I got mine.

  • any idea if this applies to other sizes?

    • Sorry I don't remember seeing the deal for the other TV's. I will check out and update when I go there next week.

      • Many thanks!

        • Panasonic TH-L50E6A 50" Full HD LED LCD TV for 1000$.

    • 55" w800a 1800
      60" r550 2200

  • Does it have the Plex Client like LG and Samsung do?

    • No, right now the only Sony TVs with Plex capabilities are the GoogleTV ones.

However its media player does have pretty good compatibility — MKV support (incl. compressed headers and multiple audio/subtitle tracks, and embedded subs), AC3 and DTS, pretty much everything but HD audio.

Plex is definitely prettier but there are other drawbacks — the Plex app on my Series 6 Samsung doesn't read embedded MKV subtitles (I don't really care I use XBMC), but the W670A Sony has no problems.

You can also just hook up a Raspberry Pi, since it doesn't have to decode DTS it just bitstreams to the TV and isn't too slow.

    1 USB port… and a 2.0 version

That really annoys me, how they make cheap versions with less terminals, its not like it costs a whole lot more to add

    Otherwise very tempting

    • Costs a little bit, but it's also about space. Less room for ports on a physically smaller machine

  • +1

@Dirtybird. 200Hz Short answer yes and no. Different companies measure the Hz differently. If you measure it to the samsung spec then yes. Cause they measure frames including the black frames generated. Where as sony doesn't. If you kinda get what i meant

  • That z series is a 200Hz tv but didn't have black frame insertion

  • So is there any motionflow on this TV? looking at replacing an aging Z5500 which has served me well for 4 yrs :)

    wondering will jbhifi pricematch?

  • +1

It equivalent to a 200Hz tv. In the old spec. In the new spec which only LG\Sony measure its 50Hz. Yes @spoonmugen

    • +1

cheers mate - bit confusing how its not standardized
anyway tv ticked my boxes so will bite :)
      thanks to the OP

as for price matching, i would give the sony centre a go. the one in chapel street closed down but i think there's another. they seemed to have a generous attitude. if they do, this could be a million dollar post. ha! (can i have a vote).

  • Just managed to get one of the two left!
Sunday is bogan day at Costco! :)

    • which one were you at?

      • Melbourne Docklands

        • Did you notice the price on the 75 inch samsung?

        • 5500

    • -1

      Hipsters go on Tuesdays.

      • -1

        And Douchebags on Wednesday.

  • Good guys does not price beat this as they said their price beat guarantee is only is its advertised in the catalogue? Such Crap. Got ripped bought 1 for $899

    • yeah you need to be careful with the t&cs
HN pricematch/beat had the clause - price must be available to general public - which means they wont p/m costco as need membership.
best price i got for same model/size was $830 HN/JB

take it back if its within 7 days?
i'm happy with my set! :)
