  • Gift cards?

    I"m assuming that is 120 000 not 120

    • As above, also assuming 120,000 in points approx. 34 x $25 Gift Cards = Total $850 in Gift Cards would be best value for the points.

  • renew what membership? Its free to hold a frequent flyer account.

  • Sell them? I know you can give to family for free once a year, not sure if that means having the same last name on account but these days I would imagine not. Hence you could probably sell them, but maybe not for more than the $850 you'd get as gift cards

Don't get the $25 gift cards, get the higher amount ones, costs less points in the long run. I recently cashed in my points for a $250 and $50 BigW card and then using them bought a $300 Everyday gift card to use at other stores.
When you look through the FF store its actually better to get the gift vouchers than any of the items.

For instance I was thinking of getting a 3DS with my points but it was less points to get the vouchers and then buy the 3DS (with money to spare)

Actually if I were you I would keep them until you can use them. There are no ongoing membership fees and if you're worried about them expiring, just hook up an everyday rewards account to your FF number and make a $31 purchase. That 1 point will give you another year on your account, hopefully long enough to take a holiday. It's only 128,000 for a ret flight to Europe/uk! (Plus taxes :s)

  • Book a QF flight to Honolulu about 72K points and $500 or Hong Kong even less. Book a year ahead if you want.

  • Sell them to someone for cold hard cash. Just pretend they are a family member (ie "Brother in Law")

    • Why would you do this. Selling them to someone else who will then compare the value of those points . That is what they could buy a ticket for with that cash.

There is NO flight value that matches the gift card value you receive, and given they wouldnt get any FF points for that flight, and have to pay fuel surcharges, and are limited in what flights are available.

Sounds good but in practice its not worth the effort plus you have to find someone, who probably would want a heavy discount to go thru the bother as well.

        One word: upgrades

  • Yeh I would pay cash for them.

  • Qantas frequent flyer does not have any associated card costs that I am aware of. Have been building up points and using them for years now, mostly as they are linked with the Everyday Rewards card. If you cannot find an agreeable flight then just exchange them for gift cards like others have suggested. I actually purchased a few items from the Qantas store too. Checkout the carry on flight bag; quite nifty and my teenage son uses it quite frequently (crossed over shoulder). Just the right size for iPads, DS's etc with plenty of zippered sections. I think they are safer and more comfortable than using a backpack when travelling.

    • I'd be happy to make use of them for you. How much do you want for them given you can transfer them to me?

  • How much you are expecting for transferring the points to my account

  • hi all, I suppose i got confused about the fees thing….I am using an ANZ frequent flyer platinum card with additional amex platinum, cost me $215 last year… yes I do travel 2/3 times overseas ( total 70 days)( not using my points but AIr Asia for my travels in Asia) and thought the travel insurance would be a good deal.I am not accumulating many points these days but think the travel insurance cover together with the points( which I have not been able to use due to time issues)
Am I correct to understand that I don't loose any points if I keep accumulating even at a low rate? say 30 000 a year?

That's right, any activity on your account - 1 point even - is enough to keep it active and your points 'alive'

  • Well if u want to sell them just send me. Private message and we can talk about how much u want. Thanks

  • Ive got just over 2000 points and I just looked and it gets me nothing, but if I had was it 113,500 points the Whitsundays 2 day sailing charter sounded alright

I always use my QFF points for long haul flights to ASIA or USA mainly in business class, have ANZ Plat. get 1,5 points per $1 spend and use Amex one everywhere I can, even pay my tax with it, also Woolies, BP, Bunnings etc. etc. have to work on it to get as many as possible.

Even a 6 sector round would can be had in economy as Oneworld flights for 120K points or Sydney to Hong Kong for 60K points. I did a Brisbane to Dallas in Bus. class for $182K points and a grand, normally would have been about $8.000.

So IMO save em up for a big trip.

  • thanks everybody, will hang in for a bit longer…cheers
