Travel Insurance for trip to Japan

Hey guys,

Im going to Japan soon and have booked tickets through air asia. I am looking for the best value budget travel insurance with my main concern being able to get remunerated if there are any major flight delays and lost accommodation due to this.

Note: I paid with paypal so i guess im not eligible for those credit card insurances or whatever.

Thanks guys!

  • Have you booked accommodation? Something like anz platinum visa will give you travel insurance if you spend $250 on flights, hotels, car hire, tours etc. I've been using it for years, haven't had to claim on the travel insurance (touch wood) but have used the product insurance and it paid out without a problem. There is a yearly fee but for my needs it's much cheaper than buying additional insurance.

  • I used Medibank private the last time I went, seemed quite comprehensive compared to the majority of other companies. It's even cheaper if you're a member for their health cover.

  • Try www.tid.com.au

I think I paid $150 for 8 days in Tokyo when I went in June. That included $0 excess as well. I use them every time we travel. I lost a pair of sunglasses in Brooklyn earlier this year and lodged a claim when I got back. Within 10 days the money was in my bank account.

    • Yes, TID. My family used TID few years ago on a trip to Japan, my daughter ended up in the emergency in Kyoto to have stitches on her head! Upon our return, the claiming process was quick and simple. We have been using them ever since.
Have a lovely time in Japan … it's a lovey place.

  • I always use TID, have been for years, I always get a discount and the cover I need, very hand to cover Car Hire Excess too (though I only usually need that in Australia).

Use this code for a discount: TIDTHANKS

I just tested it, still works it gave me $11 off a quote for 3 weeks in Japan for 2 people.
Price was $182, down to $171.08 - seems to be 6% off
