Wotif.com - waive the card fee!

Booking a local holiday and Wotif.com had a super special that no one else had, but that damn $5.50 card fee was just annoying, so in the Ozbargain spirit I found a work around!

Simply go to the booking screen for your hotel, confirm the accommodation costs (without the $5.50), then open a new tab and go to wotif.com's gift voucher page. Buy a gift voucher for the desired amount (can pay with credit card) and it will be emailed straight away. Simply put the code into the section on the booking page and voila, no card fee!

nice but fyi buying gift vouchers does not contribution to prepaid travel costs for credit card travel insurance activation :(

  • Does it work for mystery deals?

  • Great find . Wish I thought of this a couple of weeks ago
    — used it a few times recently.

  • also wotif is rarely the cheapest

and some hotels offer fixed-price gift certificates per night which can be cheaper than paying the actual room cost

    • In this instance it was a wotif special, unmatched elsewhere, didn't try to get the hotel to do it directly. But just put it up there as a way of saving a little bit should wotif be the cheapest for what someone's looking up :)

Considered making it a deal but didn't consider it deal-worthy lol

  • Do they take amex with no extra fees to purchase a gift voucher on wotif?

Just checked and they still charge an extra fee

If you are a real cheapskate like me, you call the hotel directly and get a better price of the phone. I was travelling around for 2 weeks and did this, and there was only one place that wouldn't price match, which is strange, because THEY pay a fee to Wotif as well to get your booking.

  • Love it!

Tho sometimes if you go to the Hotel's website directly they offer specials bypassing the middle man.

  • Always do this. Specials can be great- free transfers, tours champagne etc

  • excellent, thanks!

  • thanks worked a treat!

Only problem I can see is cancellations will be refunded as a credit, not money back onto the credit card.

  • That's a brilliant workaround.

  • Has anyone tried this on other booking sites such as Jetstar, or theatre tickets?
There should be a thread for this concept!

  • Nice work
