The instructions here (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/92071) should still work. Exchange rate is not as good as it was, but still not bad. Basically buy kindle paperwhite from amazon in Japan and use forwarder to ship it over. Some mucking around, but it worked fine for me - ended up with one for about $110. Like I say, probably a bit more now due to exchange, but still would be one of the cheapest (and probably the cheapest) ways of getting one delivered here.

I did this too, I was a little nervous using a shipping forwarder but it was really easy. The Kindle asked me to select a language as soon as I booted it up so no navigating through Japanese menus (which I was also a little worried about). Cost me about $105 all up.

The paperwhite is an amazing e-reader, highly recommended.

  • Apparently doesnt work anymore
