Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap a 15-16" laptop? Only going to be used for very basic tasks such as web browsing, writing the odd Word doc and accessing email. Ideally it'd be Windows 7 as its for my Mum and she's already au fait with that and I think she'd struggle getting to grips with a new OS givne her current state. Quite like a decent screen, if possible, but nothing too swish.

I'll take a look thanks. Odd as it may seem I really wanted Windows 7 as I doubt I'll be able to get her used to the Win 8 look and feel. It's hard enough getting her to understand I've just moved the icons on her desktop around if I do that!!
Not free — you have to pay $3 for a 2 license pack, or $5 or 5 pack, but it's worth every goddamn penny.

I bought a basic Win7 laptop from the Acer Factory outlet in Feb. Refurbished with 12 mth warranty — it's fine.
This refurbished Acer E1-531 is perfectly suited for the task.
There's a discount code (that will bring it to ~$295 delivered) from their Fathers Day email campaign, but I deleted my copy of the email.
Perhaps someone else will have that code?
