Cheapest coloured printing solution

Hi. I'm looking a very cost-effective printing solution that's mostly B&W and occasional low-quality colored printing.

I'm thinking something like a very basic scan/copy/print printer (sub-$100) + refillable cartridges.

Any recommendations for Brand/model and ink cartridge / ink bottle suppliers?

Thanks.

  • You're not going to find an economic inkjet printer.

Either go "all out" and buy a laser colour, or just go to officeworks for the few pages in colour you actually print.

As for B&W, laser all the way.

    • I agree this was conventional wisdom, however, last time I posted a similar comment I did some digging and found that aftermarket inkjets could work out cheaper - circa. 1c per page at 5% colour coverage.

    • +1 on the laser for B+W
Depends on how "occasional" your colour printing is.

Have you considered an inkjet + continuous ink supply? I hear they can get clogged/flooded if you're careless with them, but my gf has one and in the past year alone she's already gone through ~100mL of ink for each colour, so that's probably several hundred $$$ saved!

      • That's what I currently have. After more than 3 years, it's clogging a bit more frequently now and so I'm trying to find a new model, because the one I have is no longer being stocked.

I buy a few liters of inks when I travel to the Philippines. There they cost a little more than $20 per liter.
